No, the opposite generally. Sub nin or dnc could possibly give you more survivability sub war is to increase dd output.

Why go /War when you can survive alot longer as /nin?

I personally have found it to be this ratio for myself on MNK

MNK/WAR 90%
MNK/NIN 9%
MNK/DNC 1%

/WAR with a MNK's counter rate, plus, as has been previously stated in thread, WHMs not having issues keeping MP, a MNK is better off /WAR whenever possible for faster kills

/NIN is for the NMs that can give you acc fits and thusly, your counter sucks. Also, MNK/NIN when you are in need of NIN spell procs in abyssea and can't find a NIN to do it.

/DNC is mainly for Campaign, Besieged, and Neo-Dynamis Proccing. This may sound like alot of possible uses, but I guess if you are soloing more with these types of activities, then its reasonable to say that /DNC is viable.
