I'll admit that I never watched all of FMA, but I think I get the gist of the dog thing, and to be frank I don't see it as something so upsetting.
The guy was trying to advance things, and used his daughter for it. It seems like he made a pretty big step but then he got shut down.
Stifling scientific advancement is the only sad thing I see in that story.
Well the thing was, is that he did it to his wife before too. It wasn't an actual advancement either. He made no changes, and really had no plan to excel. He just wanted to keep his state certification.
Daddy wasnt making enough progress for the state, Certification reviews are soon, "If i cant get this certification my lifes work and everything i sacrificed would be for nothing", Sacrifices everything for maintenance of self, loses everything and later becomes the monster he created.
Sociopath career goals are bad kay.
The sadness level of the chimera comes when you realize that he took two innocent creatures and created an abomination for his own gains. Which is also why transmutation dealing with humans as ingredients is highly illegal (Unless youre a monster posing as the leader of an entirely fascist stratocracy).
