Is it possible that you forgot to grab atmas and just assumed you did? I have done this before, and the outcome was much like what you are describing.

I prolly would have somewhat easily ran out of mp on whm doing a glavoid when I used last atma config after playing dancer (thank you SE for temp items) so I can see how this would happen myself. =)
