There's more.....
I tried to read that, I really did, but I couldn't pull the *** out of the story.

All I got from that was "Black Man arrested for breaking the law."
A non existent law king.

Three pages since I posted that.... Don't any of you work? Or is do any of you actually work at work?

Well it does seem like he was violating the city ordinance, but it doesn't write the penalty, at least not in that quick read.

Officers not willing to tell you what you're being arrested for and also arresting someone for a non-criminal offense is pretty dubious. It is illegal, but it's an ordinance, a citation, not a criminal offense.

It also seems strange that they were able to contact the local ACLU, explain the situation, then contact the national ACLU, the ACLU contacts the police, the police issue a statement, all before they managed to take him the 3 blocks from where he was detained to the police station... That's pretty shady all by itself.

Yeah, laws vary, but most can hold you for up to 48 hours without charging you with a crime, but they can't hold you without suspicion of a crime, suspicion usually has to meet the same requirements for probable cause as an arrest warrant would.

Attaching is the same as placing it under the windshield wiper. Depositing is placing it inside the vehicle.

Like I said, story was over-sensationalized ***.

Malaysia Airlines Contest Fail

It’s been a catastrophic four months for Malaysia Airlines, which suffered the twin tragedies of losing everyone on board flights MH17 and MH370.

Now the airline appears to have launched a questionably named competition in a bid to rebrand.

The contest, launched on Monday, is called “My Ultimate Bucket List” -- which as Time points out, was not the best choice of words since a bucket list is made up of things one wants to do, see or accomplish before dying.

The competition is lauded by the airline as “a game of skill” and is only open to customers in Australia and New Zealand. As part of the entry submission, contestants must submit an answer of 500 words or less to the question: “What and where would you like to tick off on your bucket list, and explain why?” Prizes include a free iPad and a free economy-class ticket to a destination in Malaysia, to be determined by the airline.

On Tuesday, scores of news outlets and netizens lamented the airline’s unfortunately-named contest.

“Straight from the files of What Were You Thinking? comes a 'Bucket List'-themed contest from Malaysia Airlines that ranks as the second worst decision recently made by the beleaguered travel brand,” wrote MediaBistro's Claire Daniel, referring to the airline's recent decision to lay off 6,000 workers.

I found a number of news sources covering this story, but I know everyone here loves HuffPost.

You can do it Obama. Break Carter's record!

Quote:
President Obama’s approval rating returned to his record low Thursday, following his admission last week that the White House “has no strategy” to deal with the growing threat of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

Just 38 percent of Americans approve of the job the president is doing, according to Gallup’s Daily Tracking Poll. His rating has declined steadily since December of last year, when the 50 percent of Americans approved of his work, and the newest number ties his all-time low.

His rating has not been this low since October of 2011, when unemployment was at 9. percent and he was struggling to pass his jobs bill. It was also 38 percent following the downgrade of the U.S. credit by Standard & Poor that August.

The president has not yet reached Jimmy Carter’s record low approval rating of 28 percent.

To prove what exactly? It's a meaningless stat. Oh no, he might not get elected again! I could maybe take approval ratings seriously if it had actual stakes (re-election year or w/e), described something more than the nondescript "approve" or "disapprove", or if I had more faith in the general public to understand anything more complex than red vs blue. As it stands now, it's just a cheap talking point.

It says a lot about the legacy of a man that was hyped beyond belief just a little more than half a decade ago. Other than that I guess it doesn't matter much, unless you're trying to gauge the general popularity of his current policies.

Approval ratings only matter if they work in your favor to prove a point. If they don't work in favor of your point then you can dismiss them as meaningless.

Or they're meaningless because they have no effect on anything at all and have dubious statistical value. But congrats on having your opinion validated. That's something, I guess.

Approval ratings have always been of dubious value to me because they're just so...bias. If the economy is bad, it doesn't matter the actual reason why; the president is going to be blamed. If you're polling outside a Southern church on Sunday and you have a president who supports liberal social values (abortion, same-sex marriage, etc.), you're going to have a low approval rating.

If you take a poll in a state that the loser in an election won, chances are better you'll have a lower approval rating regardless of anything good the president may be doing.

Chances are you're never going to get a president with an overwhelming approval rating in today's world. There's simply too much readily-available information on the internet for people to digest, so they pick and choose the information that supports their own beliefs, and chances are they can find some reason to disprove the current POTUS.

According to the BBC report, Khamenei has authorized Iranian military officials to meet with leaders of the American army.

Sources also told the BBC Persian that Qassem Suleimani, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards' special Quds Force, was granted permission to combat Islamic State militants.

Further details of what the military co-operation between Tehran and Washington would entail were not reported.

Well ain't that some ***.

Dude thinks they're a legitimate enough threat to his power to team up with the US to put them down.
