Today might be a scary day. Covid-19 isn't that scary but the way people are reacting is terrifying. Don't panic.
It isn't about panic. It is about zero immunity.
People are focused on the fatality rate. That isn't the issue.
The direct fatality rate from covid-19 might be 2-4%, but that doesn't represent the true death rate. Because of too many factors to list. But here are just a few
1. Co-morbidity - Recovery rates from covid-19 do not tell the story of the long term effects of those deemed and classified as "recovered". That term does not mean anything else other than "they won't die from covid-19 and have been discharged, and they are most likely not contagious."
- We do not know how fast the virus will mutate
- We do not know what long term health effects it will cause on those infected by it
- For those who actually get pneumonia from it, they will in most cases have their quality of life reduced
- if you don't get it now, you will get it eventually. Meaning you're not safe from it, its coming sooner or later.
SOURCE WHO to paraphrase: 80% of global population will be infected by end of 2020"
2. The healthcare sector - its built and designed to deal with existing known diseases and conditions. Its managed like any other business - meet the demand with adequate supply. Most countries have a 5-15% additional capacity due to good governance for times just like these. But even with that good governance and contingency planning, NO ONE is prepared for this. MOST Definetely not the US that is already a fair margin bellow meeting the needs of its population's healthcare needs, EVEN PRE-COVID-19!!! because there are some (God knows how they exist) people in the US (coughrepublicans) who do not think Universal Healthcare should be a thing.. (scratches head..just don't understand)
Now those VERY same republicans are going to see their elderly relatives severely effected. All their friends and family members with some of the pre-existing conditions are going to suffer.
But hey, Bernie is a communist right? because he wants universal healthcare. Good, make sure Trump wins another 4 years.
Summary of point 2: You have enough Doctors and Nurses and support staff to see X amount of people. You need enough Doctors and Nurses and Support staff to see X*200 amount of people, which you do not have.
The wise wanted to stagger the infection rate by putting the country on a temporary lockdown. Allowing the healthcare sector to deal with different bursts rates of infections, while still dealing with ALL the OTHER pre covid-19 medical conditions.
Lockdown-> Treat -> Release -> Lockdown -> Treat until at least 60% of the population had been infected and treated for Covid-19.
ITS TOO LATE TO DO THE ABOVE
Because of Trump.
US needed to do the above 7 weeks ago. It didn't. What Trump did do, is make sure the economy wasn't disrupted.
3. Global Supply chain
As the BIGGEST consumer market in the world, does Americans really not understand what this means?
If Nations start stopping their exports and imports, what happens to the goods you see on your store shelves?
You've exported MOST of your industries and sectors that require big capital and labour, and moved towards consumerism and finance. Because you wanted it cheap.
Coffee, bananas, wheet, corn, rice...what happens to US mega companies like Apple and Amazon? how many jobs are going to be lost? how many more people won't be able to afford healthcare?
Canabalistic cycle. Its like the US was designed and primed to be severely crippled by the current situation.
Kinda funny. You just do the complete opposite of what the republic party says you should, and you should be ok.
Because everything they've done has lead to the current situation and the incoming crippling effects of this pandemic.
