I noticed this today when I saw the suddent boost in prices for Astral rings. Anyway, the offer is currently higher than the demand for this ring so expect a price drop in the next days.

just because they are manipulating the AH doesn't mean they are RMT (although it is likely). i talked to a GM and he told me that AH manipulation isn't against SE policy (however if they are doing it and the proceeds go to RMT then it is). so in all honesty, they could be legitimate players with lots of gil.

flame on.

While what you said is technically true, it's a far greater chance that they're RMT trying to manipulate the AH. But regardless, they need to be reported to the Special Task Force. At the very least, they can look into it and they will determine if it's legit players or RMT, if it's legit players no harm done. If it's RMT they'll be banned.

The Special Task Force does their job very well every month.
They don't need us putting 'Witch Hunting' back into business.

This has to be the silliest thing that I have ever read. Why would they waste gil in this manner?

I do kind of wish people could agree on whether or not the RMT legions are scheming to raise prices, or to lower them. I seem to hear an equal number of accusations either way on a daily basis. =)

HAH no harm done to legit players my diaper covered tooshie! do you know how many times i've been warped to jail cause some *** bag got pissed off that i single handedly raised the price of tonosoma rice balls (or any other food that is never made but in high demand by a select few people). seriously. it's not funny and it DOES hurt real players. is it my fault nobody else wants to make a certain food and i have no competition? no definitely not. this is the ONLY way i make my money so occasionally i WILL jack up the prices on food people want when it's not there in the AH. it's economics people! that doesn't mean RMT 100% of the time!

on the other hand a few people doing the same thing is also NOT RMT. let's take this into account. My friend Crayne here is selling marron glace for 400-500 (which is the current ah price) and he wants to be rid of it. so i buy them all up from him wait a week or so and then sell them all for 2K. RMT, no. maybe if my name was kjsadfb, i was buying from lkdnba, and it was the same day, then it would be a strong possibility.

please people, realize not everyone that makes money is RMT. unless all you people are RMT too.

What info you get on that depends on which GM you get and their interpretation of both what policy is and what they think you are talking about.

According to SE staff I've spoken to, and a person I know in real life who was eventually band, repeated price fixing IS an offense even if you aren't RMT.

Buying an item low and waiting a few days/weeks/months and selling back high: not an offense.

Buying an item, and selling it back and forth between your mules to deliberately manipulate a price by controlling its history: an offense. Doing it enough to be noticed will result in being investigated, then warned. Repeating after the warning gets you suspended. Keep going after that you get banned. Someone I knew at work in real life kept it up till he got banned.

Its like the stock market. Buy low, sell high, but don't get caught in any price fixing collusion or insider trading, the feds will get you ;p

Both do happen. Not every RMT group gets together and decides to all do the same thing, and certain items get pushed down while they stock up, then pushed back up to sell them. In the past certain large LS's have done this as well.

That isn't to say a lot of players don't jump to the conclusion its RMT happening when they see a price they don't like..

We have a lot of non RMT and not against the rules at all anti-competitive practices going on in Vana'diel anyway.

you can manipulate the AH, just not to change the price history illegitimately. it all depends on what you consider manipulating the AH to mean. i love fine print.

this isnt really witch hunting the legit players MOST USUALLY have buys as well as sales, and on various items, not just 3 items over and over again, also, the task force is SLOW, there were these few RMT that lasted over 6 months, it was obvious they were RMT since tehy started leveling, due to their formation, then it took atleast a month till after another RMT stole my friends account that it was banned, where it was obvious who took my friends stuff as soon as he sold the gear my friend owned, and are there really a Pro to RMT...
