On average how many have you killed to upgrade to the Colorful Abyssite?

In Pashhow right now with a friend. He's popped Globster and the Worm about 4-6 times each. Killed np but still no change. He doing something wrong?

I've seen 1 and I've seen it not upgrade after like 15

I've gone as few as 1, as high as 1/127.
