Need Help Picking A Craft

Hi guys, I recently came back to FFXI after about a year off. I have the gil to get a nice start into any craft but I dont know which one. My LS was no help and neither are my friends lol. I just really want a craft that can make me a solid steady income. I thought goldsmithing was the way to go but my friends tell me you got to be really lucky and its very expensive. So if anyone has advice of a good money making craft and the sub crafts that go with it. I would be very very grateful. Thanks

If you're looking strictly for monetary gain on a consistent basis, you're best doing cooking, alchemy (bullets), or woodworking (shihei/arrows). However, many newer recipes will require you to get your Synergy up; so better get to it.

If you are smart they all make money - you just have to find your niche on your particular server.

Fishing! All it costs is a Lu Shangs + bait to get started, and chatmon turned up loud enough to hear from anywhere in the house.

A good craft to pick is Minecraft.

Do u have any craft @ 60/70? If no try different crafts lv em up and see how ya like em..Profit will depende if u farm em urself or AH buy em.I'm lving my sub crafts right now and personally leaning to Woodworking or cooking as main craft to lv up past 70.Leathercraft Smithing and Goldsmithing are money makers right now but req synergy leved up as well..Looking on wiki guides for each craft's,find something to make and try it out. GL!

Unfortunately no im just starting to get into crafting cause I never had a whole lot of gil. On my old server Titan a friend of mine would make gil hand over fist with bonecrafting and that's what funded his Relic Bow. I did hear about Smithing from a random person on my server as a money maker. Could you maybe shed a little more light on that one please? I'm just very curious about it atm.

I know from expeance seeing cursed hauberk -1 made back 2 back in 5 min..each sold @ 11M..cursed breastplate -1 @ 30M...yea u will make maney buy how much did u spend to get it back up 100+...i dont know a lof about any other crafts beside the one i have @ 70 or lving up the currencty...Go over each guides for all crats and see whats cheap to make+ and get a head start on ur craft..If you are bored....go fish,drink a beer!fishign goes well with cooking..Like i was told by members in LS.look over crafts and guides writen my players,pick one and work on it..Look over the guides on wiki and try em out.Ctownwoody guides are the best... GO and Try em out!

Run away from smithing! (This from a 90+ smith that can no longer make easy/fast gilz by smithing) It is too hard to level at the higher levels.

Cooking is good especially if you want to fish. Alchemy is great cuz it is cheap to level and makes consumables. Wood is good for ninja and ranger for ammo and such. You can get all the crafts to 60 as sub crafts anyway before you decide on a final one.

The consumable crafts are of course a little easier and are somewhat reliable. But, there is a downside in that they are cheaper, so making gil requires more synths/ah slots/etc. Also, I don't know for sure, but it seems like the markets are a little more volatile since SO MANY things are selling. So many times I list a bunch of Bison Steaks for say, 8k, then get them back in my dbox, then go to relist them to see the price is now 11k or something silly.

It's definitely about finding your niche, and picking something that coincides with what you already do, or would like to do. I picked cooking because I found I was buying all kinds of silly (and sometimes pricy) food. inb4 fatty

Cooking.

Cheap, even profitable to level to the 60's/70's. Loss is very little to get to the 90's. It's only expensive/time consuming if you wanna take it (and this is speaking when limit was 100) higher. There's little reason to though.

You can level it to 90 and make plenty of profit off it. You don't gain much by going higher.

i make more money with my subs then any of my 100s. its about finding a niche on YOUR Server.

Some crafts take time but can be profitable if you work at it. This usually means lots of synths and waiting for stuff to sell by not undercutting yourself or others.

Fishing and Cooking go together well but not as much as you would think in terms of profit. Many of the fish cooking synths barely break even on Bahamut lately. Some are ok if you have a decent HQ rate but many of those are spam crafted and 50+ stacks on the AH at any given time so even if you don't, others will undercut.

If you decide to go with a material synth, you should level synergy along with it as most the profit comes from there lately. Some synths can be made with and without synergy too. I like the idea of a 100% no synth loss on some items and it's a little easier to aim for HQ's this way too but obviously not guaranteed.

As a 100+ fish/cook, I can honestly say the best synths are the ones no one else wants to do. The most time consuming ones that you have to run all over the world to gather ingredients or ones that require unstackable items to make.

cooking and fishing are pretty solid. Cooking is incredibly easy to skill up to about 90 (I only encountered one length of break synths, and they weren't horrid). Most of the ingredients are vendorable, and fishing can help the process, but its not required. Synergy also benefits from cooking as well, if you want to go the pet jug route. Take a look at what's selling on AH, find your niche (I know, it's been beaten like a dead horse, but it helps to know what's selling.), and go with it. Keep in mind you don't have to choose just one recipe. I have a full list of everything that sells average to very fast on Quetz and I always check before I craft. But I also realize that Quetz seems to be a cooking server (I see alot of cooks running around, but not much of anything else outside of fisherman and wood workers) so keep this in mind, and good luck with your future synthing.

yeah being 96 smithing my self its complete loss to level it but there is big money items to be made IF key word your luck rolls right. Like everyone else is saying do your research in your server and see what you can control and make money off of. Other then that just do what you feel is best and easiest for you.
