200k for 2 bombs is a huge figure considering how many planes and the precision of bombing was throughout both combat theatres. Imagine if we bombed Japan like we did Germany but instead every bomb could be a nuke. That's insane to think about

Both nuclear bombs only killed 200k max people. It's not a lot at all.

Both Idi Amin and Bashar Al Assad have scored 500k kills in their own countries.

Isn't Bashar Al Assad in this video ?

The Japanese military leadership was fanatical to a serious fault and would have never given in despite impossible odds. The Allies had three options with three discernible outcomes.

1. Blockade the entire Japanese home islands until they gave in.
This was not going to work given the established fanaticism. Inducing a famine on such a scale would also kill millions and render any subsequent occupation a nightmare and also put the Japanese people at serious risk of succumbing to a communist revolution.

2. Invade the Japanese home islands and torch the foxhole on a national scale.
This would have been an absolute massacre with over a million American/British and other Allied losses projected and far more than that for the Japanese. A land invasion would have worked its way north-east and by the time the Allies would have gotten to Hokkaido the Soviets would have already gotten there first. This would have resulted in Japan basically becoming a nation divided like North and South Korea.

3. Make a dramatic show of force and drop two Atom Bombs on Japan.
This is what the Allies went with. Considering the alternatives there should be no surprise or disdain over the fact Truman went with it.
