I want to know what's the best set for a tanking NIN for Gods and NMs.

So far my set is http://www.ffxiah.com/item_sets.php?id=119634

Is there anyway i can improve it further?
Soon as the new Add-on expan. comes out i'll be getting Legs with -4% pysc dmg and +8% movement speed.

is this a purely -dmg% set for when shadows go down? or is this a general set for spells/utsu/ect?

It'd be used mainly for tanking so I'd keep it on nearly all the time apart from spell casts where i'd swap in haste gear.

go with haste/hp/enmity on nin/drk switch to dmg down for an oh ***macro

terra staff, raptor strap+1, nokizaru shurkiken, Walahra Turban, harmonias torque, eris earring, loquatious earring, arhats body +1, (hands can be dusk, koga tekkos, or seriyu kote) mermaid ring, other ring can be many things, cerb mantle, swift belt/warwolf belt, byakko haidate, haste feet

if you swap to that set when shadows are down, you're gunna lose alot of HP+ and you're gunna have to blink to put haste on which could be a problem after a nasty claw cyclone or stomp (and such things).

also, i doubt evasion torque is doing anything for you. Ritter gorget, or Harmonia's Torque for enmity/hp(on ritter) would be more beneficial..

You do realize there is a cap on how much dmg% - you can have right? you're at 47% which is damn close to the cap, i'd say to work on another stat like evasion if you have open slots.

Am I wrong in thinking that haste gear doesn't reduce casting time, just spell recast, so it should be full-timed?

in the effect that nin is being used. then stacking on the enmity for vokes and enmity building (via bind, sleep, ect) while using an eva build for idle and haste for recast would be the best way.

@rictor

u wouldnt need to wear haste full time unless u plan on grabbing a few katanas and swinging at the mob. wearing haste full time would only be used to lower timers and weapon delay.

Right on the first, wrong on the second unless that was supposed to say "shouldn't". Haste reduces recast time, but should not be fulltimed given NIN/DRK with Terra's is only engaged for parrying.

Your set looks good. Patronus Ring, consider ditching the Jelly Ring if you're going to be eating nasty spells (bad stunners, lack of stunners, etc). Swap out any Enmity gear you have in this set for HP gear or defensive stats like evasion/parrying provided you're able to macro it back in, if your macros are limited (non-windower and less extensive macros) consider adding HP anyway but you should be ok as is.

Im not so experienced with nin/drk, just recently i set up my equipment.

I do what some have said basically. Idle with staff + arhats head and body + jelly for 40% pdt. I dont think its worth wearing more than that in an idle set. 10 eva from Rasetsu Tekko would help more than -3 pdt i thought.
If my shadows are down, so i put up the oshit macro with darksteel.

As for mdt my idea was to swap it in (removing jelly with 2x merman) when i see a dangerous magic (aoe) being readied.

To build hate i cast sleep, bind and stun (if the enemy doesnt build resistence) with close to 15% haste (considering i would have 2x march and haste spell) and enmity on the rest of the equipment (swapping in hades sainti as well). Last Resort and Soul Eater i use on oshit moments with full enmity.

I thought this would be a nice way to do it, adding perhaps +hp instead of +eva on certain situations. Maybe im too spoiled with thfs eva lol.

I have a few items for Ninja listed on my profile.

http://www.ffxiah.com/player.php?id=366162#item_sets

==============

I use the following sets for tanking HNMs.

1) Physical Damage Taken
http://www.ffxiah.com/item_sets.php?id=48400

2) Magic Damage Taken
http://www.ffxiah.com/item_sets.php?id=88690

3) Ichi casting
http://www.ffxiah.com/item_sets.php?id=54050

4) Ni casting
http://www.ffxiah.com/item_sets.php?id=54052

5) Ninjutsu Skill
http://www.ffxiah.com/item_sets.php?id=48389

6) Evasion
http://www.ffxiah.com/item_sets.php?id=88687

7) Enmity
http://www.ffxiah.com/item_sets.php?id=48390

8) Fire resist
http://www.ffxiah.com/item_sets.php?id=48398

I continuously swap gears to maximize my tanking
ability as Ninja. My group likes to fight with low
numbers so over time I found these sets to be useful.

I am missing a few items such as the MKE headpiece
augmented with Fast Cast +5% for my Ichi casting set.

I cannot wait for the 3rd expansion to obtain the legpiece
with Enmity +4, HP +25, and Physical Damage Taken -4%.
This would cap my PDT at minus 50% and increase my Enmity to +50.

Read it, learn it, live it. Best info I've seen thus far on Ninja item sets.
