Yes. Just started re-reading and buying the WoT series, on 7 now =]

Terry Pratchett is a legend, the Discworld books were highly entertaining when I was growing up, and no less so now.

I also quite like R.Scott Bakker's "The Prince of Nothing" and "Aspect-Emperor" trilogy's.

Catch-22 and 1984 are both classics, can't be denied =]

I enjoyed Dr. Seus's excellent use of a rhyming scheme in this book. It really helped develop the plot.

By far the best books I have ever come across.

Other good-to-great authors include fantasy writers Raymond E. Feist, Janny Wurts & Brent Weeks.

Also Dan Abnett is a steller sci-fi writer.

Ohhh, I could go on and on in this topic. But for a quick start:

William Browning Spencer. My favorite books by him are Resume with Monsters, and Zod Wallop.

Martin Amis. He's amazing. London Fields isn't perfect but is mesmerizing, and Amis' style can't be beaten, in my opinion.

I'm not a huge fan in general of Russell Hoban's, but he did write a book that I absolutely love and have read numerous times over the years, The Medusa Frequency. It's a strange little read and it just does something for me.

Nabokov too, I love, but I wasn't as fond of Lolita as of others, like Mary, and The Defense.

Kafka. Oh, I love Kafka. I have a biography of his, The Nightmare of Reason, but I've been too busy to start reading it.

And I love the old fairy tales. You know, the ones with sad, horrible endings. Not the Disney-fied versions.

I read a lot of science-themed nonfiction too, as well as other super-geeky nonfiction themes I won't bore anyone with. ^^

yeaaaa webjester~ neuromancer and hitchhikers are the best.
i was a huge wheel of time fan, at first.... then in the latter half of the series it seemed to me he tried to drag it on and on. Or maybe he didnt try to but did by accident. And then to add insult to injury the guy leaves us for the next world without even having finished it!? gosh. anyways, my all time favorite series is Otherland, by Tad Williams. If you're a sci-fi/fantasy buff, you absolutely must read it^^

When I was in middle school, I was a pretty big bookworm, and got into a few sci-fi/fantasy series at that time that I always feel like I should go back to one of these days.... Barely find time to read any fiction any more since school takes priority these days....

Others have already been mentioned: Anything Tolkien and Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series, as well as the Dragonlance series by Weis/Tracy that I got into in high school.

And J.K. Rowling FTFW.

-edit- Dammit, just remembered one when I thought about the books I got into in high school: John Sandford's Kidd series--I didn't really like the Prey series all too much, but I couldn't resist the amount of nerdy information that was inserted into the plot.

I also got into Dan Brown's books at the time, WAY before the Da Vinci Code craze. I actually prefer the 3 books preceding it.

OMG. I loved Lamb! It was an amazing book. I loved his writing style, but the rest of his books I never really got that much into. Fluke was a good one, though. :)

Robert Jordan and Terry Goodkind are two big ones.
Jacqueline Carey, Michelle Moran, Philippa Gregory, Lisa See, Neil Gaiman, John Grogan are some authors.
The Stand, Stephen King.
The Gargoyle, Andrew Davidson
Guernica, Dave Boling.
Monique and the Mango Rains, Kris Holloway

I have too many books, and it makes the husband quite frustrated, lol.

One that I missed.. actually begun as I was scrounging through the discount aisles looking for a decent cheap throne room companion. I came across this for 3.99$. Zhang Boli's first hand account of the massacres at Tiananmen Square in 89 then on his journey to "Escape from China" and afterwards.
Really for someone who grew up only knowing vaguely of the details on Tiananmen Square and what had happened there I found this book to be extremely educating and eye-opening. Great read for anyone if you can pick it up!

World War Z and Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks

Not a fan of most of Stephen King but Desperation was really really good as well.

I loved the Zombie Surivival Guide ~ I have World War Z on discs but I've yet to listen to it

And the only King book I liked was Different Seasons (With Apt Pupil, Shawshank, Stand by me and something else)

I read that last month -- pretty harrowing stuff.

My recent faves? World War Z by Max Brooks for the fantastic world-building, and The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon for being everything promised in the title. Seriously, if you have any interest in the Golden Age of comics, check it out.
