Facebook: Privacy Is Over

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg told a few weeks ago that user information would now by default be public. Your name, profile picture, gender, current city, networks, Friends List, and all the pages you subscribe to are now publicly available information on Facebook. Now Everyone can see it.

Zuckerberg said: " We view it as our role in the system to constantly be innovating and be updating what our system is to reflect what the current social norms are. "

Current social norm are the end of privacy? Really?

For years Zuckerberg been talking about the importance of privacy, what/why is that sudden turn over?

It it a way to sell data more easily? It is really toward what we should head? Will it hurt them? Could it be the start of the decline of Facebook? How many people would change to another site(If they keep pushing toward less privacy) if the structure is as good as Facebook and have a privacy feature?

Meh, FB is dumb

You do know that anyone with half a brain can configure it to be private and only show information to approved friends right?
This only affects people who just started or don't know how to configure their own account.

Besides, wouldn't it completely defeat the purpose of facebook to begin with if you were extremely private with your information? The point is to share information in general with friends and other people.

Which is probably a lot of people. I was also reading about problems coming up with people having their info available through search engines even if it was set back to privacy. Also problems with having your profile picture private. I'm sure it's easy for you to find your way through the new settings option and have everything back to private if you want it to but it is not the case for everyone. Again I was just pointing something out, just to see what people had to say about it! The common answer so far seems to be:

Well if you have anything to hide, don't post it on FB or don't have one to begin with. Simple as that.

Again you'd be suprised how much of your info is out there and how easy it is to get. Just think about all the junk mail you get. At your home, email, maybe even phone. It ain't any harder for Joe Schmoo to get it then those companies.

Just because some people don't know, follow the path below:

Login> settings (you'll see this at top of page on the right side) > privacy settings > search

Once you're on the search page, look for the checkbox "allow."

IF it isn't marked off your ***stays private, from the prying eyes of google and Internet search engines. It's that simple...

I don't even remember whens the last time I logged on to FB. I got it out of curiosity 'cause everyone was like omgfacebookissokewl!1
Then I was like

Privacy is very important. People sadly act like it has no value to them or that the only people who want privacy are social recluses. Privacy and freedom are related in many ways. You should protect your privacy as much as you would any of your property.

Using an age old practice known as social engineering someone who does not like you or random hacker can absolutely destroy your life. All they need are a few seemingly insignificant details about your life and a little skill working the system.

Let's say you have a Facebook profile and you have a picture of yourself and say something like "I grew up in a little town in Alabama called .. whatever" on it. Now you might think.. what could possibly be wrong with that.. well I someone really didn't like you they could use that to really get at you.

With a little digging one could find out, where your were born, then travel to the hospital of your birth and obtain your birth certificate, with that they could get a real drivers licence with your name and their picture on it, and now they are legally you ... and you see where this is going..
