Well it's not talking about overpowered so much, they were talking more on the lines of said job needing said offhand to function.

Well it's not talking about overpowered so much, they were talking more on the lines of said job needing said offhand to function. Or the options of an offhand when dual-wielding. :P
I would much prefer Rune Fencer be a sword user and not a greatsword user like people are wanting. :|

Would be cool if they had a JA similar to the way Knight in FFV could double attack power with a 1-handed weapon by holding with two hands. Higher defense/parry rate without JA, improved attack with JA?

I am curious if Geomancer and Rune fencer would be added to relic/mythics/empyreans.
Then again; I've answered my own question, unless they're adding dnc blu etc to relics.
But if that didn't happen, would their be a new line of weapons similar in fashion to Relic/Mythic/Empyreans with this new expansion?

What Rune Fencer really reminds me of is Genesis From Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII where he was fighting sephiroth in junon. How he slides his hand over his sword to enchant it.

Holy freakin' cow. They're using my ideas that I posted on the FFXIclopedia forums a while back for Mystic Knight. I sent them an email back then too and they replied telling me what great ideas I have and thanks for playing. I feel appreciated now, lol.

Strengths
Their exceptional magic defense and elemental resistance put them squarely in the tank category, along with paladins and ninjas.
Two broad categories round out their runic arsenal: - Element-based runes add elemental damage to attacks and increase resistance to certain elements.
- Enchantment-based runes increase either the fencer's attacking prowess or their ability to defend.
Rune fencers will possess versatile abilities like one that cuts the duration of the next enhancing magic spell cast on them by half, but in turn amplifies the spell's effect 1.5 times, and another that erects a barrier that reduces magic damage.
