Promoting Steam being released on Mac, the Valve team have made portal, until the 24th ABSOLUTELY FREE!
Now everyone who's played this game realises what a beast it is, it's simply amazing, there is nothing quite like it. If you haven't played this game, I'd suggest making a Steam account (totally free here Steam) and getting this once in a lifetime offer.
I recently bought the orange box but have only played HL2
What's portal and why is it so good?
It's one of the funniest, freshest and best games I've ever played.
Simply put this game is a puzzle game where you have a portal gun which you can use to complete said puzzles. Most of these puzzles you need to move a block, or gain momentum to get to somewhere different on the level. It has a really awesome story which ties into the HL2 story.

If you like, or at least don't hate puzzles games, Portal is the apex of the genre, combining clever puzzles, with well written, pitch-black humor.
I think it's incredibly overrated, but what isn't? If you have it, you definitely owe it to yourself to give it a go through.
I don't find it overrated at all, it's one of the most original concepts in gaming I've ever seen. Of course 'Narbacular Drop' was the first in the series to do what it did (made by the same people) and Valve saw ingenious concept and worked with them to make one of the best games of all time.
Oh. Yeah, this is worth making a Steam account for if you've never played Portal. The ending leaves a bit to be desired, but it's comical, mind-bending and the best thing you're likely to get for free for a long, long, long time.

Have you seen the new ending they edited in?
Nah. I played it when it was still new. After ending it, my rodent-attention span kicked in and I moved on. :/ This makes me want to go at it again though.

They added radios throughout the puzzles to make them have a new edge of difficulty, getting these radios to a certain place in the level gave cryptic clues based on a the Virtual game they were creating to Hype Portal 2. You don't have to fulfil it but it gets you an achievement and gives you awesome clues on Portal 2. Then in the ending they edited it so that Portal 2 has a logical standing.
I didn't really like Portal. I mean it was fun while it lasted, but I was thinking "Woo! Finally beat the tutorial!" When the game ended.
That was the charm of it. Any longer and the puzzles would of started feeling stale.
It came, it delivered and it left without getting boring and leaving you wanting more granted, but not bored.
Well no, I'm not saying it's a bad game for that reason. I'm saying, it would have been neat as a full-length game out in the real world instead of just in a test facility. I can think of a lot of ways that it would be awesome outside that area.
Portal 2 looks like it's going to fix the problem though, so we'll see.
