JP Culture Things I Don't Get

So, while playing this game, and now dating (and engaged!) to a woman who is more familiar with JP culture, I've come up with a few things that I simply don't get:

1) It's common to say "Moshi-Moshi" (もしもし) on the phone to say hello, etc. However, this actually means "bug bug" ... the heck? You only use this on the phone, not in person.

2) Japanese language, and kanji, of course have been around far longer than English. However, they nearly always use the roman numbers (1,2,3...) instead of what they have. Why??

3) Similar to #2, why do they frequently use english words for which there are readily available JP ones? A good example is to watch Ninja Warrior (on Comcast on-demand if you have it, it's called Sasuke in JP. They have the "Spider jump" which is called as such, and clearly there is a JP word for spider. This is quite common, where english words are used despite no non-JP speakers expected to be present.

1) mushi むし means bug not moshi もし.

2) Almost the entire world uses roman numbers so it only makes sense that they would too.

3) Much of Japanese language has been influenced by foreign languages. So much that they have an additional alphabet called katakana which they use to spell these words.

to 1: can't help you there, but from what my JP friends tell me it does not mean bug-bug.

to 2: standardisation, If every tribe in the world would use different number systems, noone could communicate.

to 3: english language also uses non-english words, it is not exlusive to the asian culture.

That's Arabic, not Roman.

typically in anime, especially some of the ***they have in on demand(you see Dark King btw), what happens is that they use english...just because they can.
Does the word spider in japanese sound as awesome and foreign as spider jump?

Typically I see english used for humor quite often.
but you can't base a lot of what you see in anime as being full-on japanese culture just like you can't base american life on the simpsons.

1) Moshi Moshi means hello. It means hello, not just a term used that also means hello. It means hello.

2) Every damn country uses 1, 2, 3, etc. It would be hell on earth if everyone used spelled out their numbers in their language.

3) I don't watch anime so I can't judge that, but I know in music they use English in a lot of songs because it helps with rhyming and some words aren't direct translation, like slang. "Sexy" for example. Many languages have ways to say "very attractive person" but none solely for the word 'sexy.'

We think foreigners are strange.
Foreigners think we all suck, because we do.

1- Words have two different meanings in many languages.

2 & 3- "1,2,3" are actully Arabic numbers.

These questions are so superficial they have nothing to do with culture.

I love the morbidly butchered english speaking in some anime.
Just the ones that they are actually having the character be from the US and then they apparently can't speak English without a japanese accent :/

It's no so much scary as just nerve racking. You spend a long time just running around solving puzzels *** WAITING for something to grab u lol.

I haven't ever finished a silent hill since ps1. I did love the movie though.... the barbedwire scene will never be forgotten..... ever.

Silent Hill 2 is by far (imo) the best game of the series. If you wont play it, you should at least watch a play through on Youtube.
