They are your equipped skills, you press 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 0 to use them. You can change them any time you want.
That's the same as the way Warcraft does it, no? Are you able to make XI-style custom macros or do you have to put up with that awful hot key setup? Like I said, I have no intention of playing XIV, since XI will be my final mmo, but this seems like a step backwards to me.

To make the game more skill based.

what's so skillful about mindlessly clicking the attack button instead of it being auto? (not trying to sound like a douche, this is actually a serious question)

You can't go AFK so you'll actually have to be aware of what's happening, and using moves at a certain time.
It's like using a job ability in XI, but all the time.
Therefore DD's who don't pay attention or are bad will be easy to spot and remove.

so it'll breed more elitests because people can't click a button as fast as them? lol...i see your explanation, but i still dont get how you have to be aware of surroundings/etc if you're just forcibly clicking the att button
edit: and if you go afk in FFXI you disengage when one mob dies and not engage another...people do notice that..i dont see how its gonna really be that much different in 14

You'll have to pay attention to what's going on, you'll have to change your attack pattern to suit a certain enemy or boss, you'll have to pay attention and not go AFK all the time.
All this system does, is shows the bad players from the good players. This is a step in the right direction, if you've ever levelled up a mage you'll understand how easy DD's get it, and see why it's a good thing they actually have to concentrate.

Rapture is XIV. and SE told many people that asked, that this game wouldn't be coming out for numerous years.
XIV tech demo came with a release date and finality.

Dude, you never fought anything remotely close to tough in FFXI period.
Lol.
Nothing is hard in XI.

being able to sit there and click your att button and ***won't make you a good player...not always going afk, doesn't make you a good player (it just doesn't make you a horrible one)
edit: and how do you know nothing is hard in XI? nobody has touched the robo kefka thing in abyssea yet

Again, if you level up a mage you'll realise that DD get off easy.
If you don't like the system, then action based RPG's aren't for you.
Because clicking a button is so much of a chore.

I have 80 sch and 69 whm...yes i level mage jobs
edit: and i liked the diablos console games...those were click to attack (which definitely got annoying after awhile). but I dont think it should be implemented in an MMO, that is meant to have long and winding battles....people gonna get hand cramps lol....
plz enlighten us on a positive aspect of this fighting style...besides the "it shows good players from bad ones" because it really doesn't.

Then you'll realise how often you have to press macros.
What's the difference here?

Exactly. But pressing a button is no different than pressing a macro, it just means DD will have to concentrate more in TP phase.

I think it'll be about the same for me =S
That said I'm probably going to get ffxiv sometime. I just don't know when. I like a lot of the mechanics I've seen so far in the game. But I still have a bit I want to do in ffxi and a few friends will still be playing it.

Whats the strongest thing you have killed, XP mobs?
AV is hard, takes a lot of coordination to kill.
PW is hard, takes a lot of people and coordination to kill.
Hell
Glavoid is *** hard. If anyone does dmg to it when it's doing a TP move, it heals x2 the amount of damage you deal to it and gains a huge stoneskin effect every time it gains HP. Also, it spams slowga / stonega IV. It drains buff, it uses bloodweapon multiple times, which causes HATE RESET. It hits quite hard, has a lot of HP and it's quite franlky hard for someone that just got his hate reset to get hate off mages while doing 0 damage to it because it has a 2000-3000 dmg stoneskin.
AV and PW are the only hard mobs in this game, everything else is pretty easy. Hell AV and PW aren't even that hard if you have competent people (Competent, as in concentrating and with a decent level of gear) And no, it's not hard to realise when something is doing a TP move. Maybe my skill in vidja is higher than yours, but I don't find turn based games hard, skill wise.

All of which are easy.
The preorder is Starting! Now the question is: after Vision of Abyssea... who is willing to buy the next add on? (just wondering how many people liked visions enough to want to get scars).
