@ Darkanaseur - I LOVED the Fire Emblem games, but wasn't sure if they'd clas as RPG since it's kinda.. military strategy. Still.. I've completed 1 & 2 about a dozen times, maxing out all chars on sacred stones.. lol. @ Tiger - Ocarina of Time has always been an RPG in my mind.

Well FE follows the core principals of RPGs in that you take on the role of a character and follow a progression system. Zelda is RPG ;x Can genre-splice and give it adventure labels, but adventure in itself really isnt a proper genre for a game.

@ Tiger - Ocarina of Time has always been an RPG in my mind. Same way I'd class Fallout3 & Oblivion as RPGs. /Shrug I shall ignore all other opinions D:

@Bros - Lol, shush and get online and come kill *** ;p

Turned based tactic games are still rpg, like FF Tactics, no Zelda (that i've seen) is an rpg, they are Action-Adventure, lastly those others are American RPGs, which typically bore the living hell out of me (my opinion)

This is going to make me seem old, but I remember these oldschool computer games for Forgotten Realms/Dragonlance settings commonly referred to as the Gold Box series. The ones I played were Pools of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades and Pools of Darkness. These games were freaking addictive to a young nerd who lived in the middle of nowhere.

To prove they do, in fact, exist:
http://www.oldgames.sk/en/game/pool-of-radiance/

There's also the old classic Castle of the Winds, which was made for windows 3.1, *** all that archaic DOS ***~!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_of_the_Winds

In terms of console games, I randomly happened across a game called Growlanser Generations. It's a JRPG with a strategy-based battle system and a storyline that can change based on your effectiveness in battle. For example, there's one point where the main character is poisoned and less effective in battle -- If you take to long to get from one point to another, it affects another character's rise through the knight heirarchy and affects stuff like storyline options and skill development. Neat stuff. I'm really surprised that one didn't get mentioned sooner. I can't be the only one that's fallen in love with that one, can I?

Those weren't the numbers, technically just the stupid numbers that the U.S. marketing team used, which was stupid because if they had just released them as numbered, people would have had a demand for the others as well, epic fail in marketing. 4 6 and 8 are all great games, 8 is one of my favorite games of all time, only a few parts of it I think should have been tweaked and if I felt like taking the time to do so I'd so do it myself. Again though, Zelda games aren't RPGs they are action/adventure games, large difference.

You can keep saying Zelda isn't in an RPG, and technically it isn't, but it has many RPG elements thus why everyone basically calls it one. It just focuses more on puzzles than hack-n-slashing.
