WASHINGTON (AFP) – In the largest US arms deal ever, the administration of US President Barack Obama is ready to notify Congress of plans to offer advanced aircraft to Saudi Arabia worth up to 60 billion dollars, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

War has changed. It's no longer about nations, ideologies, or ethnicity. It's an endless series of proxy battles fought by mercenaries and machines. War.. and its consumption of life has become a well-oiled machine. War has changed. ID-tag soldiers carry ID-tag weapons use ID-tag gear. Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their abilities. Genetic control, information control, emotion control, battlefield control. Everything is monitored and kept under control.

War has changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control. All in the name of averting catastrophe from weapons of mass destruction. And he who controls the battlefield controls history. War has changed. When the battlefield is under total control, war becomes routine.

Pfffft.

War.

War never changes.

The Romans waged war to gather slaves and wealth.
Spain built an empire from its lust for gold and territory.
Hitler shaped a battered Germany into an economic superpower...

...but war never changes.

In the twenty-first century, war was still waged over the resources that could be acquired. Only this time, the spoils of war were also its weapons: petroleum and uranium.
For these resources, China would invade Alaska, the U.S. would annex Canada and the European Commonwealth would dissolve into quarreling, bickering nation-states bent on controlling the last remaining resources on Earth.

In 2077, the storm of world war had come again. In two brief hours, most of the planet was reduced to cinders... and from the ashes of nuclear devastation, a new civilization would struggle to arise. A few were able to reach the relative safety of the large underground vaults. Your family was part of that group that entered Vault 13. Imprisoned safely behind a large vault door, under a mountain of stone, a generation has lived without knowledge of the outside world. Life in the Vault is about to change.

lolol this is no surprise. the usa is the largest supplier of weapons in the world by far. It's just a lot of it is done below the radar and nobody ever hears about it until years later if/when the people we sold the weapons to goes against the usa in some way shape or form.

Why every letter put fourth by Kojima is an affront to the literary works of all human beings:

Stop the presses! The United States sold ***to a Terrorist state. Some people Didn't take history, and read about when we gave the Taliban crates of weapons to fight the Soviets? The Same RPG's they used to shoot down Hind choppers are now blowing our soldiers out of their unarmored HumVees. This is not a new development.

inb4 wow, US citizen actually knows something.

nothing new here

* Royal Saudi Air Force has operated 4 squadrons of F-15C/D (55/19) since 1981, received under Peace Sun. They are based at Dhahran, Khamis Mushayt and Taif air bases. A stipulation in the Camp David Peace Agreement limited the number of Saudi F-15 to 60, holding surplus air frames in Luke AFB for RSAF pilot training. This limitation was later abandoned. The RSAF had 139 F-15C/S and 22 F-15D Eagles in operation as of November 2008.

War is a lot more palatable when there are good guys and bad guys. It's a lot harder to get enthused about when the bad guys used to be the good guys that worked with the good guys against the bad guys who are now the good guys, who are partnered with other bad guys but are less bad than these other bad guys so we'll say they're good guys, but not in relation to these other good guys. Who used to be bad.

But aren't right now. Maybe next week.

I'm pretty sure it's why everyone likes endless movie, game, and documentary remakes about WWII.

This is just a tactical move to strengthen the military of the government for self defense purposes. However, if the country were to become a fail-state then it would destablize the region and provide more support for terrorist groups.

@Jaerik

The only way to have peace is the collective agreement of nations in the world that they support the status quo. While nationalism can provide a catalyst for preparing for war it is not really focused on the "good" and "bad" guys. The identity of nationalism and patriotism for your country is a self identity with your own nation-state. Anyone who threatens that could be called the "bad" guy I guess.
