I've saw a few comments about SE's FF14 dev staff etc. So out of curiosity I launched the game and did what most people don't do, and that was click on the "credits" option (because I'm one of the few that actually likes sitting threw and watching credits on games & films).

HOLY SHEET BALLS!! I could of swore I was watching the credits for Iron Man 2 or a similar type film... 0.0;

Eh. I dont mind if you guys like the game. It doesnt do justice for me. Definitely not Square Enixs best work. Just another Korean MMO Grind. Even the music sucks now :/ Whats with the electric guitar solo stuff? Honestly West Ronfaures music shits all over XIVs OST. Even Nobuo is starting to suck now.
I remind yuo of Sandy's music since you want to mention shitty music.
I do have to agree from what I've heard XI has much better music... lol

Does I have better music than XIV? Does X have better music than IV? What is the point of the comparisons?

The point of comparisons is to see what is improving and what isnt. Music is one of the most important factors.

Improving what? This isn't XI upgrade. It has an entirely different flow to it. I don't remember people saying i don't want to play XIII because the music isn't as good at XII.

It's fair to say "i prefer VIII's music or IV had some great tone to it" or even compare JUST the music between games to see how they have changed...not improved.

yes different game with the same simple base, but it doesn't change the fact that music is not that likable.
it's a little weird mmo music, but they are taking a risk at trying new things so can't blame em.

Most all of this is pure personal opinion, not inherent flaws within the game that needs to be fixed.

Too illustrate.. (incoming wall of text.)

I believe it's also worth noting that even now, in a completely new game that's not been officially released, the music still vastly kicks the *** of anything ever in FFXI.

That's not an opinion. That's a fact.

You not making gil doesn't bother me, I don't want to have to search 15 different wards for that one item I want, especially if I'm crafting. The current system in place is many steps below any type of searching system and only serves as a further time sink and waste of time for those looking to buy. We need an AH or at the very least a way to sort through the bazaars. The districts should be named after what components you are allowed in a certain district etc. If we don't get an AH or some improvement to searching bazaars at some point I won't be playing this game for very much longer.

I like the music, it's definitley a different style than XI's. But that said I still like a lot of XIs music, specifically a lot of the battle themes. Who is to say I can't appreciate both?

No system is perfect, if I have to deal with a flawed system, I'd rather deal with one that leaves room for people to actually make gil without wasting 3-4 hours of their time for all of 20k.. I mean it's just as easy for me to say that you having to search through 15 different wards doesn't bother me. It doesn't make either of our opinions more valid or justified. I'm not sure how far you've gotten into crafting, but it stops being cheap pretty quickly, if the AH system present in XI is introduced, you won't be doing very much crafting to begin with, so having to search bazaars becomes irrelevant, you'll face a new issue, one that is currently rampant in XI.

I'm not saying I want the system to stay as is, I'm just totally against an AH, and I'll freely admit that all of what I said was opinion.

I understand, but I feel they're still be many ways to make gil even with an AH the way the game feels setup. All this bazaar system does is slow down any real economy being established.

Let's hope they improve their customer service.
So I used their email support through the SE account site three times during this region-locking stuff, and they were immensely helpful. I always got a reply back in 24-48 hours, and the reply was polite and actually typed by a person. No form letter responses. In the end there was no way for them to help me, but I understand why.

That's just me though. And it was the JP support site. So your mileage may vary.

People have no idea how expensive and massive these games are to make, now. The art teams alone now number in the hundreds. And keep in mind, these are all people making good money, working for years and years. Game budgets are often higher than movie budgets these days.

It's pretty typical for a AAA MMO to be $100 million or more to get out the door now, and that's not even counting your infrastructure or hosting costs. By comparison, MMO's back around the XI era were around 1/10th of that or less.

It's a different world. The bar for what is a "successful" MMO is much different now. The budgets are just too damn high. They have to do something different, not just release a sequel and appease all the same people.

i always hear jp support is better than the rest.

costs a lot to make a mmmo mostly because of the artwork, it's more realistic now... and more time consuming, also the maintenance and uhh yeah..

maybe SE is trying to implement another economical system with out an AH? let's give them a chance guys.
I am hearing it's easier to make gil on this game.

You don't want the same inflantation and RMTing and linkshells controlling items right?

I agree, it's less frustrating in a way and actually ruins the RMT inflation and money making, given that auction house and brokers are the main way of doing it.

And it's not even that hard, farm your own mats, craft, etc. top ive made is 400k a day, it varies though on how much people buys.

Basic economics also follows supply and demand, the supply is going to jump a lot more then the demand is going to, thus the prices are going to drop further (since obviously not everyone that will be joining us is going to be crafting, this is a certainty).

More player = more crafter = more wind needed. I wonder why the demand is supposed to not increase as much as the supply. Wind are needed for most recipes so yeah, can't avoid this.

As I said, since not everyone will be crafting that's joining us, the demand won't grow as much as supply, when supply growth overtakes demand growth, prices drop. The only way it'd stay the same is every single person that came to the game started crafting right off the bat, which won't happen.. I'll be shocked if half do it.

Just wondering here, but why is the main focus of the game to craft? You don't play mmorpg's to sit down and craft all day to only then have to go and grind aswell, it's just plain boring and unfulfilling. I really don't see FF14 lasting as long as FF11 with the many new rpg's about to hit the market which quite frankly all look like they play better than FF14.

Maybe, but he does raise some valid points all the same, especially the combat system, having played the beta I know exactly where he is coming from...

But for sure he should not base his opinions on such a small segment of the game, it was a trial demo after all. The guy is frickin hilarious though you should check out his other reviews, if you get butthurt by him you have no sense of humour.

Meh, I dunno, he does have some valid points, but he reacts WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to dramatic about them.

Sounds like he just rushed through it to talk about Guild Wars 2 (Albeit yes it does look pretty and looks good, I can't really say i'm looking forward to it as much, I found the 1st one to be ... kinda boring actually)

He's pretty dead on about a lot of things though.

SE is horrible with public relations and advertising(especially in the west). The way they did the XIV booth really is embarrassing when you compare it to how GW2's was setup.

Have you played them all?
FFXI - .....yeah
EvE - AWESOME game...shity shity shity interface.
WoW- Not gonna touch this
GW - Great game, soon to be updated
EQ/2 - meh
Age's games - they all sucked
Cities - very fun games, mostly giant chat rooms though because one wants to play the game the way it was ment to be played
LoTR - Decent but lacking any true immersion that it should have.
Aion - hugely split between "this game is good" and OMGWTFBBQ MY EYES!!!!

Up Comming -
Old Republic - this one is promising
GW2 - already pre ordered it
Lego universe - could be good if they don't but rape it like they are known to do
DC Online - *** THAT ***!!!

So yeah there is the break down of the current AAA and AA MMO market. If i missed anything let me know

I have not actually played all the mmorpg you have listed there, I meant the competition that FF14 will face is going to make the fight for players more difficult especially if SE have failed to come up with a good game. The minor MMOs like LOTR, EVE, EQ, PWI etc have a relatively minor impact on proceedings, it's the big players like FF11/14, WOW that take the big slice of the MMO cake, with GW in between.

Now if GW2 is as good as it looks in that review (bear in mind it was simply presented properly with exciting scenes and features whereas FF14 was the opposite so it's impossible to make a fair comparison at this point) it could become a major player and rival Final Fantasy in terms of players, especially if it is a far better game and it is free. The same goes for Star Wars, I am going to try it just because I am a huge Star Wars fan and an even bigger fan of the KOTOR games from which it is based. Now if they make a good game they will amass a huge player base simply because of the cult phenomenon surrounding Star Wars, I would estimate with complete confidence that it will become the biggest MMORPG going behind WOW which will never be surpassed in the near future for sure.

So yeh in a nutshell FF14 is at serious risk of falling by the wayside unless things change.
