"Stand up with a selfie-- it's not about me but it is."
It's an Idaho thing. Here's a long-winded explanation:
STAND UP WITH A SELFIE
ADDING THE 4 WORDS to Idahos human rights laws is important for EVERYONE. We all have family, friends, and neighbors who need this protection. We all care about someone in the LGBT community. Some of us are Straight ALLIES and some of us are LGBT. Personally I have been FIRED for being GAY. The lawmakers refuse to hear MY story. I believe "it's not about me but it is."
Suicides and discrimination in work and housing have forced Activists to shut Down the senate several times, blocked the governors doors and planned even more WEEKS OF INTENSE ACTION to get Idaho Lawmakers to FINALLY Add the 4 Words.
ONLY WEEKS LEFT IN THE 2014 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
Year after year lawmakers say "next year." How many young lives will be lost and how long do people have to live in fear of losing jobs, housing or being told we don't serve people like you in this restaurant before they will say discrimination is wrong? For the first time ever the bill has the votes it needs on the State Affairs Committee in the Senate and Republican leaders are talking about negotiations! The time is now to get Idaho lawmakers to schedule a hearing and start doing the work of adding the words!! They must stand up, pass the law and give young gay & transgender people hope that Idaho will get better and THIS represents how for 8 years Idahoans have been silenced because our legislature has refused to have a public hearing on a bill to add the words "sexual orientation" & "gender identity" so Idaho's gay & transgender people are included in our state non-discrimination laws!
Under the direction of Nicole Lefavour, activists have learned it's not about the individual trying to make change but it's for the people who cannot speak and the people who don't have a voice. We hold our hands over our mouths to symbolize the silence of the legislators and senators who wont even talk about this amendment. Their silence affects me. I say "It's not about me but it is."
STAND UP WITH A SELFIE
ACTION:
1)Take a selfie with hand over mouth.
2)Post the words ITS NOT ABOUT ME BUT IT IS
4)Upload to Facebook, Instagram or your other favorite social media site.
5) please be respectful in your picture
6) please no animals.
This will symbolize the SILENCE by our local government and yet put a face on who it really affects .
WE are family, friends, and neighbors of those who are losing their housing, jobs, and even their lives. IT IS ABOUT ME.
STAND UP WITH A SELFIE.
So, here goes. It's not about me, but it is.
