I agree, there needs to be some discretion when going outside of established norms. However, just like the people who created those norms, they had to experiment to find things. With this game constantly changing and equipment being added all the time, what's the harm in trying something new? Sure, it might not be what has been deemed perfect or most effective by the gaming community as a whole, but that's the beauty of having diversity. Just because it's different doesn't mean it won't work. Even if you fail at first.

There are a few things that grind my gears...

1). Disrespectful players - I honestly think some of these pre-teen jerkoffs were raised in barns with wolves and/or pigs for parents. Nothing boils my blood than getting chewed out by some pimple-faced asshat for declining a party invite, or getting spam-slapped for getting claim on a mob fair-and-square..

2). PL = n00b... this includes the people who /shout for a PL, who come with one, or players who refuse invites because the group doesn't have a PL.

3). Level Sync - I've hated this idea since I read about it before its update. "(Level Sync) 10 (Party) (Do you need it?)" "(No, *** off!)", this is giving n00bs a reason to be more HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE. Great, now n00bs can party in The Dunes and not worry about actually putting in effort for sub jobs, better gear, Eastern access, etc.

4). Gimped gear - There is no reason at all to be a 75 melee wearing level 30 pieces, unless its PCC, O.Kote, or some ***. You can't level sync forever, at some point, your dumbass will have to make gil to upgrade your wardrobe.

Now back to you Diane!

I think he was refering to the fact that with level sync, the beginning is fine, its the being "not a beginner" that people are missing. 10-45 in the dunes = 5 lvls from aht urghan and a lot of wiped parties because of lack of skills, lack of player experience, and lack of common sense.

Now, I like level sync, but I believe it should be used in reason. A vet player working on Maat's cap will see great merit in syncing, but a brand new player should use it sparingly as a tool to keep levels in context, not to remain in a single zone for a greatly increased duration. (10-30 in dunes, 30-50 in jungles or desert for example)

I have had Lv30+ players ask "Where's Qufim Island?" when I asked a party there or something of that nature. Level Sync has its pros and cons.

Well, why is knowing where HNMs spawn an essential piece of information? I wouldn't cry myself to sleep if I forgot all of that, that's for sure.

Don't be hatin, I had shitty gear for like 3 years, and It took me 4 Lv75 jobs before I could even find it in myself to complete COP. =( I was literally on COP 2-3 with like 2 jobs to 75. lolol

Worse still are those same players who look down on people who are actually willing to try something outside of the guide. Who cares if you don't have the perfect haste, dd, mp, heal, or whatever type of build for your character and job?
.

Well I care, when it involves a whole LS/others players. I'll not try a new random strategy that can risk a LS wipe on an important event (ie : not dynamis, not salvage, not sky, failing these is not a big deal). Well something like T2 jailers, ZMN T4, etc... You don't wanna fail these things since it takes time to gathers pops. If everyone is all right with trying a strategy so be it, but if most of players oppose, then you have no right to force them.

However you're still free to gather a bunch of good friends and try this or that with an exotic setup :) I like doing that myself, as long as everyone agree and is aware that we -might- lose, it's ok. Sometime you do things for the win, sometime you don't. If you wanna have fun with an all WHM alliance on KS99, do it... on your orb. Don't involve others players in your crazy strategy because you know they don't want to and all they care about are drops.

As for "follow the guide" attitude, instead of blaming players, blame SE. If ***would drop with a decent drop rate, nobody will care about losing a run or two. Let's say sea torque drop rate would be 70%, everyone would be ok about trying a new strat, or fight jailers with a funny setup. Now drop rate is so low (~10%), and time to gather pops is so long, that you don't wanna fail your attempt.

The only and one thing that forces people to always aim for perfect setup is low drop rate. (indirectly time to gather pops ~ respawn time ~ drop per involved player ratio).

I get what you're saying, Antipika, and I think we all can agree that for things that are pretty damn important, or where the penalty for loss is severe, that going with a proven strategy is prudent. However, there are a lot of people out there that treat every damn thing as if it's that important. Like they're just locked in a certain mode of thinking, and nothing is gonna sway them; if you're X job, you need to have X subjob, and if not, GTFO. They're not willing to try ***because someone told them way back in the beginning that that's just the way it is, so that's the way it's gotta be. To those of us that like to experiment a bit, it's kind of frustrating.

Most of the time, the more "adventurous" of us just /sigh, and do what other's demand...but it's not too much to ask that every once in a while, someone take a chance before proclaiming how stupid we are without even seeing it in practical application.

Yeah but then again if players think that way it's because everything is time consuming in this game. Whether it's drop, exp/hours ratio etc... I can't blame players for not having time to do everything, and therefore wanting to optimize things as much as they can.

SE locked players in a certain form of thinking. I wish I could do endgame event without worrying about job/sj combination.... You simply can't unless it's something like WoTG missions lol.

I sleep good at night knowing I'm still stuck on CoP 2-5 even though my LS mates passed that mission a few weeks back o.o

Actually, I've lost interest in CoP, ToAU, and RoTZ. My days are spent in campaign, dynamis, and farming, oh the simple times!

Funny thing about that. Our first JoP sucked balls, we tried kiting #1 a long long way away and killing #2 before #1 came back so we could deal with one at a time. As soon as we started damaging #2 though, #1 came back to join in the action and *** us up.
Second attempt, we kited #1 away to the south, and kited #2 to the north near the dimensional portal. We held #2 without damage until #1 killed the kiter (who was out of alliance) and depopped, then killed #2, that was a win, and so that's the strategy we decided on from that time forward.
Attempt 3, same strat, except PLD had a brain fart and used shield bash to hold hate, thus damaging the fish we were supposed to not damage. From our experience of our first attempt, this should mean that the kited fish should come *** us up. I don't know why, but it didn't, so got the alliance fish down to 10%, the kited fish depopped (and you know this happens because the alliance fish opened it's mouth) and we killed it. Easiest JoP we've ever heard of, considering we did it with less than an alliance, when my friends pimp shell does it with ~25.
Attempt 4, we were hesitant to try the same strat in case it was a freak glitch in hate or something, but we tried it, and it worked.

While this doesn't really come from thinking outside the box, it's interesting to notice where some of the best strats come from. From everything we've researched and heard, our now current strat should have got us all killed and lost a hard to acquire pop set, but because of trying something new and outrageous (even if it was because of a mistake) we now have a working strat to kill one of the hardest sea gods in about 5 minutes.

Our LS has been pretty successful in a lot of things with low numbers, and we've tried a few out of the box strats on things to achieve that success. Having just one person prepared to lose a heap of exp by sac holding a mob while a whole alliance unweakens is a really good way of developing better strats on things (/cheer Jryan!)

No-one wants to be a Bastok member because it's a *** to get to (an extra gustaberg zone to get in or out). This means that the other two nations have more members, Bastok loses conquest a lot, and gives even more reason to not want to be a Bastokan.
