I need some advice on how to handle something...so...here goes...

My 8yr old daughter was at the next door neighbor's house spending the night with their 10yr old daughter.

She just walked in my back door, it's 12:48am...The adults in their house are sleeping.

My daughter said she was trying to wake up the adults to ask if she could come home but the other girl wouldn't let her near them and kept hitting and kicking and yelling at her. The girl called her "HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE," "idiot," "baby" and continued to hit and kick her.

The the girl decided she didn't want my daughter there anymore and unlocked her front door and "kicked" my daughter out of their house.

My daughter only had to walk about 15 feet to get to my back door but it is extremely dark and she was extremely scared and she was in hysterics.

I called the neighbor's phone, in the hopes that the ringing would wake one of them up but I ended up getting voicemail, so I left a message letting them know the she is at home so that they don't worry horribly over her being missing when they wake up in the morning (even though they probably still will) and in the message I also explained that their daughter was hitting and kicking my daughter.

Now, what I am wondering is...how exactly do I handle this tomorrow when everyone is awake?

I have already told my daughter that she and the other girl are at the very LEAST temporarily banned from each other for a while, but, how do I approach the adults about it?

I'm so angry about it right now that I kinda wanna go bang on their front door til they come out so I can scream at that other girl for being so mean to my baby and for kicking her out into the cold dark night...but that, of course, would not be a very good thing to do, you know?

Anyway, anyone have any ideas?

my daughter has a bruise forming under her left eye but she swears the other girl never hit her in the face, she says the girl only hit her in the arms and kicked her in the legs...

I'm really unhappy right now...my poor baby is still in tears over all of this!

Comments: Story ideas are currently being discussed.

I had no idea D:

Quote:
Proposed story ideas included the discovery of a deadly prehistoric disease that the revival of the dinosaurs inflicted and which threatens to wipe out the entire human race.

One of the ideas featured a group of soldiers that were genetically crossed humans and dinosaurs. This was proposed by John Sayles.

They're a ways away It seems lol

For now, it would be wise not to make a big deal of it, especially in front of or to the parents. Treat this as an isolated incident and wait for things to cool down before you can have the "talk" and even remotely consider another sleepover. But to get in good graces again, have something everyone can attend to like a dinner party or something of the like. Kids act differently when they know they're not being supervised.

Ninja Edit: But by no means should you let something like this "slide". Be sure to be assertive but not instigating their parenting. All you need is answers, not a solution per se.

Definitely show the parents of the other girl your daughter's bruises, and tell them everything bad that their daughter did to yours. If they fail to listen to reason, then perhaps get a higher authority involved or dole out some warnings about their crazy daughter to other people who know her. Idk anything other than that really.

Thanks, I might be able to handle that...the parents know their daughter is a bit rough around the edges, and have made every effort to make sure that my daughter remains their daughter's friend, but, after tonight? I don't think so.

I've tried to get past the fact that she's disrespectful, and that she's just kind of generally mean to every other kid she meets, but this went too far. She's only been in town for about 3 weeks...she's from california and moved up here for a year to be with her mom because she was "absorbing her 15yr old sister's attitude" which I'm assuming means the 15yr old was in a bit of a bad way and the 10yr old thought it was cool so they separated them to keep the 10yr old from getting too crazy...I'm starting to think they may have done it a bit too late.

I feel bad though, I hate not liking kids, I always end up giving them all like 500 chances to make amends...but none of them have ever kicked my daughter out of their house in the middle of the night...

ugh.

I dunno Novaria, I guess I'd approach the adults tommorow and tell them what happened and ask why they were.. left alone and awake at 1 am? Did they know the kids were up? Ask if they're gonna let the 10 year old know what she did wrong and why.. etc?

I'm no prude and I'd like to think I'm pretty liberal but why do an 8 year old and a 10 year old have run of a house at 1 am >.>

I don't have kids so it's no surprise if I'm not giving the best advice tho. :X

I can only imagine that the kids were told to go to sleep then stayed up past that. It's a pretty common practice for sleepovers--at least it was for me when I was a kid. We'd always get told to go to sleep at 10PM, and we'd stay up until like 1~4AM. >_>;

I'm really sorry about your daughter Nova, I'm glad she's for the most part okay. I can't really give any advice about that though, too much of an out-there situation. I don't think I'd allow your daughter and that girl to hang out again though regardless of whether or not things get worked out. :x

I just meant the whole leaving the house, opening doors and whatever else bits at that age, but maybe I'm forgetful of how I was. [not very good ;x]

It's not like the parents are like HERE KIDS GO PLAY OUTSIDE AT 1AM. I mean kids can unlock doors, and when parents are asleep you can pretty much do whatever you want. :x

I don't agree with letting the kids have run of the house at 1am either...I mean, I'll let the kids stay up SUPER late when they're here...but when I go to bed, they also have to go to bed, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I'm not going to question their methods though as it's really none of my business, but they definitely won't be having any more sleepovers for quite some time.

Definitely talking to the parents tomorrow morning, I just don't want to start some kind of neighbor feud or something you know?

Oh Definitely! I've been asking her a lot of questions about it...apparently she was getting a bit homesick (this was her 3rd night in a row away from home, 2nd night at the neighbor's house) and she was trying to go to sleep because she figured if she went to sleep faster, the morning would come faster and she could come home sooner, but the other girl didn't want her to go to sleep and that's when the hitting started...

What I'm wondering is how the moms didn't hear all the raucous, my daughter is NOT a quiet girl by any means...

I'll be filling in the pieces all day tomorrow to be sure.

And Chuuuuu, sorry about the walls of text...

And Art, I'm definitely not going to berate them for their parenting or anything like that, I'm just going to let them know the story my daughter told me and let them know that the other girl is not allowed to come over and my daughter is not allowed to go over there for quite some time.

Heh, that reminds me, when I was little and got into my little argumentative fits, my dad would tell me "You're an Askew, not an argue." Probably didn't do much for me back then, but in retrospect, it's kind of clever.

PS: Yes I know, I have a dumb last name.

That is pretty clever actually.

Askew pronounced like "ask you" or like "those lines are askew" ?? or am I not even close?

at least you weren't known at school as "darn it garnet, quit flirtin' blurton"

and no, I was NOT a flirt >.<

Yeah, my last name is pronounced "ask you" rather than the word by definition, which means crooked (applying specifically to written text). Got to be the butt end of many stupid jokes for that one in elementary and middle school /facepalm

So what should be my next investment of self-sufficient entertainment?
I pretty much ruled out going to LA this September for Distant Worlds.
UCLA is right next to Bel-Air, thus hotel accommodations cost your left nut. Much rather upgrade my PC, get an xbox 360, 3ds, or maybe a new hookah and maybe some fresh paint and posters for my room.

I don't usually do the whole room with posters thing, but the fresh paint sounds like it could be fun. :o Do that!
