The first post made me rage. 1500$ budget for a pc to last 7 years

My initial budget for my new PC was about that much.
Granted, it would be with parts that revolve around a mod concept, and generally fits the roster as things I "want" more so than things that are practical. Although, it goes without saying that things will be upgraded piece by piece over time, and will not be expected to last any amount of time on its own.

Here's my ideal PC that fits about $1500.
As noted before, these revolved around a case mod concept, and things I wanted more so than what is practical. So yes, the case is overpriced, along with the RAM and several other things. Also the mobo is expensive because it was the best one for the memory standard up from PC-1600

The most expensive parts in my PC are my GPU and (soon) my SSD (maybe?! I gotta look up prices lol, dunno what one I wanna get D:)

Even my several thousand euro pc wont "last" 7 years, but I will be upgrading it when it comes out of date ofc.
"$1500 for a pure high end gaming PC? I say that would need to be upgraded or replaced every 3 years."
Even less than 3 years most likely.
The PS4 is already behind in tech right now so I'm not worried about that, but thats not gonna stop even my computer being obselete in 2 years and likely needing an upgrade.
Especially because you said a "pure high end gaming pc" which cant be done for 1500

My last PC lasted 7 years, the only reason I upgraded was so I could multitask better (I could keep up with most new games still lol)
granted I had a new GPU in the old PC as well...

Staying on top of the hardware race is an expensive endeavor in of itself as would starting a new pc from scratch. However, the trick is to keep your eyes open for new hardware which subsequently decreases price on what was previously top of the line. Also, worth noting is looking for trends in hardware that help retain their status for a prolonged period of time. Wouldn't do any good to buy a chipset that is in its twilight years forcing you to buy a new mobo if you wanted to change the CPU or RAM.

Consoles never have top of the line hardware though >.> The games can still look great if they know what they're doing.

Lucky for us many games are specifically developed for consoles, so they can be optimized to run very well despite being in the lower echelons of hardware power compared to PCs.
Though, this practice does have its compromises. Essentially we're revolving our media around outdated equipment and only jumping up to improve every 10ish years or so, which by the time a new console comes out, it's already smoked.

Yeah its about using a stable platform efficiently. But my point was their hardware isnt gonna affect the pc hardware industry because 1.there are already pc parts for sale better than everything in the console and 2.they're made by the same companies, its not like sony magically made these better things they wont sell outside the ps4

Whoa, whoa, whoa, back up there.
I didn't say it couldn't be done under $1500.
I am saying the people with penis envy would buy something like an Asus Sabertooth and an unlocked i7 processor which costs like $1500 without any hardware, that's just motherboard and CPU. More like 500.....

The biggest problem the gaming industry has right now is making games with bad stories though. Slightly outdated graphics aren't as bad as a shitty story.
By Artemicion 2013-03-15 09:04:44
I wonder if Sony or MS will ever consider consoles that are modular, in the sense that even derpy computer illiterate consumers can send it in for an "upgrade" and have options thereafter to improve performance and visual quality of their games, despite the games themselves being solely developed for lesser hardware.

I read that as "you can make a pure high end gaming pc for 1500 but need to upgrade every 3 years"

I'm way above that and dont expect my pc to last even 5 years >_>

Take your rig for example Drac and install Skyrim with HD texture mods to make it actually challenge your rig and run it on 1920x1080 then compare it to PS3 copy. In detail they're miles apart.

inb4QXi7 You and I both know anyone buying a 1k CPU will be getting a better mobo than a sabertooth.....

Debating if I should hold off on my PC plans til summer to get a 680. Though the 670 FTW edition has the architecture of a 680, and is clocked to essentially run and perform like one.

I had the HD mod before they released theirs and it was a huge difference lol

There's also a degree of common sense involved. For example my i7 has never been pushed over 50% load. I know further down the line it will, but I have the headroom to overclock it. No need to upgrade that CPU for a few years most likely because for a while its not needed. Sure in a month or two I could uprgade my GPU's when the new ones come out,but why? I still destroy anything put out there for now and by the time my cards do start to struggle, there will be something even better than the soon-to-be replacements. Buying a new part for the sake of it everytime one comes out would be stupid. There's a degree of common sense is all

This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
