So I did get back to the post, I decided to just send a message to the guy that was asking about it as a day-to-day vehicle. The other guy looking at it was just asking about it as a derby car because of it being a certain classifier or something for a particular division.
Anyway what I wrote (for the people bored enough to read it)
Hey, I am the previous owner of that Subaru that Mr. Brothers posted. I sold it to him this afternoon because quite simply it is junk and I saw he was looking for derby cars. I saw you expressing some interest and I also saw what he was saying and I feel the need to clarify some points.
There are a lot of problems with the car, the guidelights are held in with zip-ties because they wont fit in the frame after I hit a deer, which also pushed the fans into the radiator so at least one of those has stopped spinning.
The "aftermarket exhaust" he is talking about can only I imagine be referring to the piece of pipe I had made from scrap at Star Route and the muffler that rusted off and his held on with a piece of kitchen pipe and some clamps. That or he may be talking about the catalytic converter that needs to be replaced (I already made good and damn sure it wasn't an O2 sensor issue, but if you see the CEL, this is what the code is indicating).
"sunroof and everything works" Yeah sunroof... everything works... not so much. The AC unit was ripped out by the owner before me and the hoses that connect the air system I replaced with some random hosing from a hardware store. The air intake system on it now looks nice and shiny, but it is a cheapo $10 plastic intake from ebay.
The right front rotor is warped and scratched and chews through a set of brake pads each month. The wheel bearings are all suspect and probably need to be replaced. The same wheel with the warped rotor has a brake caliper that loves nothing more than to seize up, which helps the warped rotor in it's quest to destroy brake pads.
Last summer while trying a DIY job, I tried to flush the transmission fluid, and while ultimately I was able to, I did have a brief period of time where the engine was running with no fluid. I did not notice any change in performance right away, but after a few months I noticed that when shifting gears the car has a tendency to lurch, and when driving uphill if the car tries to shift it will over-rev like crazy.
I don't know if you are a mechanically minded individual, but unless you are looking for a project car, or something you want to invest some money in, I would avoid this car. I went straight to people looking for derby cars and junkers for a reason.
If you have any questions about the car feel free to contact me, I have owned it for the last 3 years.
