They made it much thinner. A good idea, thing must weigh a ton as they have it now.
Well, a lance like that is meant to be heavier than your typical spear armament.
Spears you should be able to still use a shield with, but you have to be incredibly physically strong to use a lance like that. It would be possible to make one closer to the actual scale of the weapon but it would require cutting weight elsewhere to make the adornments on the blade thicker. Likely the easiest place would be the solid steel shaft. Could be made with a much thinner diameter steel rod run through a wooden sleeve, though that would be in the idea of a non-useable replica. That thing likely needs to be solid to not just bend.
Though I don't know much about making halberds/spears, I only make daggers. Just make it real/to scale and build some muscle and not be a wimp!
