It will push you around, but not because it wants to see you fail, but rather it wants to see you succeed and overcome, becoming victorious.
I'd obviously recommend it to anyone, just know what the game is about and don't think the game just wants to kill you over and over, but rather have you take responsibility for your deaths and learn from them.
