Kids, especially 11 year olds, like games, as cliché as that might sound. All you have to do is make it fun and interesting for him, and he'll be more engaged. I wish I could tell you how to do that, but that's something I'm struggling with, right now. I'm teaching Hamlet, and they all whine about the same thing, "It's boring! I don't see why we should be reading Hamlet!" I'm doing everything to make it fun that I can, but I can't help but remind myself that I'm not exactly a 15 year old, anymore.

I dunno, I guess I'm not much help. Maybe I'm a little salty over the fact that I can't get my students to buy-in to me or my subject, right now. All's I'm saying is, try to make a game out of it. Like, see how fast he can connect the what'sit to the whoseamajigger and time it, or something along those lines. Make it competitive and fun.

At least Hamlet has teen-appeal potential: ghosts, angst, revenge/vengeance, sword fights, murder by poison, manipulative parents, etc. :p

Just have them imagine some mini-skirts and explosions in there, and you have yourself a lesson plan. ^_-

I'm trying to show them that, but they're so caught up in the language throughout the play.

It's exhausting, but we'll soldier onward. They need to stick with it, because in a couple weeks, we're going to be doing Julius Ceasar, and that one they don't have a choice in.

Then again, that unit will be laid out for me by an experienced teacher, so maybe that'll be a little better.

that makes no sense at all; I didnt report it and I'm not religious. Disagreeing now means butthurt here apparently.
Yes cause you're bringing up something meaningless.
It was a joke and I apologized for it in the very same moment cause I knew it could be taken badly.

I have already expressed my stance on religion, religious people and faith in the appropriate threads.

So get off me. You're holier than thou attitude you have around here is getting tiresome.

Despite being more intrinsically interested in literature at that age than my peers, Julius Ceasar was one of my favorites. It really is the "OG" of betrayal stories.

I have one student who does this. She's actually really enjoying it, which is awesome.

We already read my favorite Poe story, The Cask of Amontillado. They... thought it was boring.

These kids really hate reading.

That's a shame isn't it? It's like they have no sensory input to their brain whatsoever unless it's on a screen and played in video with A-list actors -.-

Well to be fair someone might like reading but just not like classic literature. Some things can be quite heavy. And the language being somewhat archaic can be offputting as well.

Take them into the cellar, get them drunk and entomb them in a brick wall.

I like the Tell-Tale Heart short story myself.

That's where you get the whip out and "spread love and pain encouragement" to the kids.

True. I sometimes take it for granted how well I can deal with different linguistics and whatnot. Ironic though cause I couldn't get even 40 pages into say: A Clockwork Orange without being completely lost and feeling hopeless about the whole thing. Damned thing even has a glossary on the backside.

That was Heart of Darkness for me. Marlow and Kurtz can take their density and stick it up their yeahs!

Also, to a lesser extent, Finnegan's Wake, but you'd have to be a full blown genius to get through that monstrosity in one piece.

What made me feel even more bad about the whole thing was how Burgess outright refuted the film as being anything remotely like his intended vision. But this is a common occurrence when print transitions to film.

*** James Joyce... That guy was the most cryptic *** ever. His writings were like a thousand Mysts rolled up into one.

Anyone feeling adventurous?

TES mods are much worse than anything in any Tomb Raider. I once saw a mod that allows you to rape your enemies. I've seen some ***.

This is why I actually prefer playing on console, no reason to browse mods.

Never seen pervy mods of TR. Though honestly I don't think I've ever seen them for console games in general.

I think in one there was a nude texture that was added in by a dev as an inside joke and dummied out but someone found it

Aye, I try and keep things relatively vanilla and canon, but I mainly search through FFXI mods simply because there's some things that the community simply does leagues better than Squeenix did at the time.

mornin

I remember during reading class, I had this Batman novel (np pictures)

I finished it, and teacher let me trade it for a book of hers, Collection of Poe stories. Class/Semester ended eventually, never got my book back.

Still have the Poe book, good read indeed.
