That's part of what makes it amusing to me. I'm hoping to at least hear about them getting funny reactions from people. Also, I always thought missionary work was supposed to be done in countries with people who are disadvantaged and need some form of actual help. Instead, they're going to a country where most people probably live better than they do.
there is bound to be a large number of poor people in any country though, makes sense.
Well, true. I may have worded that poorly. I meant that missionaries typically target areas that are
vastly more disadvantaged than where they come from.
With the numbers I came up with (Google, so take that for what it's worth), the US poverty rate is around 14.5%. In Sweden, as of 2012, it was listed at 26.7%.
But, my cousin and his wife are coming from Alabama, which has a poverty rate of 28%. So it seems to me that they'd have better luck working from within their own community. Which would also let them put their church's money (or whoever is funding their trip) to better use.
Edit: But what do I know? I'm the guy who is blocked by both his sister and her husband on Facebook for posting things about religion that they don't like.
