I have two of each.

The cats will hold the dogs down and wash them.

why not like both?
Because all of the dogs I have ever owned and interacted with are completely stupid to the point of worthlessness.

At least with cats if you treat them right they will show affection. Never once had I had a cat (and I had close to 20 or so in my life so far) that wasn't affectionate and loved the hell out of me, but that's just me.

Zero One episode 2 was great. I really hope they can keep up this level of quality. Nice to see bike action return. Aruto is a complete goof again, but Isamu seems to be a good balance to him. Looking forward to Yua's episode next week.

Sheep herding dogs have a great tendency to be bright. Border collies are brighter than some people I have run dungeons with.

I have had a few stand offish cats. One of the current two is neutral, she will hold still for pets for a bit.

All dogs in the herding group, hound group, working group, and sporting group are very intelligent, they have been bred for specific jobs, some of them for centuries, others for millenia. Almost all of them are gonna be smarter than house cats.

Sorry Vic, Afghan hounds are hound group, Irish setters are sporting group. Both are known for lack of intelligence.

However nothing beats dandie dinmont terriers in that department. They have been in the AKC from its inception and have never once won an obedience trial.

Afghans are just do it yourself dogs. They don't want any help or interaction when they are out doing their jobs. That makes them hard to train, but nowhere near dumb. They just aren't interested in human opinions.

Maybe I'm biased, maybe I'm lucky, but I have yet to encounter a stupid cat.

But I have yet to own a dog that isn't dumb enough to not constantly run into walls over and over again.

Then again, cats rule and dogs drool. And there is nothing you can say that will change my mind.

I have a theory about Irish setters. If it doesn't involve birds it isn't real to them.

I had a dumb cat once. He was sweet, afectionite, and loving but way not bright. One of the best cats I have had though.

Not sure where you got the idea Irish Setters are dumb, they are super active and very smart. Some people grade intelligence on ease of training, but that cant really be applied to all breeds. Afghans have been bred to be very independent. the less interaction they have with people the happier they are. Scottish Terriers are raised to be dominant, they have a superiority complex and won't even think about letting a human tell them to do something. It doesn't make them dumb.

I don't grade bright on trainability. I trained my sweet dumb cat to sit. He learned, didn't mean he was bright.

Aussie shepherds are bright but not as easy to train as border collies. Because of this they are low on those smartest dog lists rarely making the top 20.

I grade bright on adaptability. How they react to novel situations. How they adapt to and handle new people and places. Other, harder to quantify, stuff.

I knew a schipperke who ate squirrels for lunch. She didn't catch them by chasing them.
