A reliable lie detector.

I think the major problem here isnt knowing if someone is lying or not, but allowing a machine or algorithmn to decide if it can decide if a speach is lie or truth. Regardless, I suppose most laws would allow one to stay silent afterall, none should be forced to produce proff against himself.

And i dont think truth and lie should be considered something so obvious because everytime you try to define whats true or not, you will end in some very subjective or circunstantial hypothesis.

Everything in what we call reality is perceived and interpreted. And people dont believe things because its true or false but because they decide to do it. Calling someone a liar isnt more than a framming technique. Thats not an exact cience at all.

Researching the 1860s for my next book, 1867 was a rough year for pistols. Smith and Wesson patented the cartridge cylinder, and no one else was allowed to make it. Pistol progression just stopped for 3 years, until the conversions started coming out. The only pistol that actually shot cartridges in 1867 seems to be the S&W Number 2. Rifles on the other hand, completely dominated by the 1866 Winchester Yellowboy. No other rifle was necessary ever again.

Good on you for doing your research. That being said, there's a reason why my never-going-to-be-finished novel is set on another world. It's hard enough keeping the historical details straight even when I invented it all.

But too much backstage information can backfire the overall plot making things overly complex and/or rceating some restraints that eventually will force some factual incoherence to be created.

It is funny remembering some manga that spent chapters and chapters trying to tell a convoluted fictional timeline... just to be axed before any of it had any relevance.

When it is about what makes a story interesting or not, I notice it is not WHAT you tell something but HOW you tell it.

For example, the wonderful movie Amnesia: story completely normal and without anything worth attention but told in a way that made it unique.

Death of Chinese RMT industry maybe?

Good writing should at least account for facts. If you start with a solid foundation, it just helps keep everything neat and tidy.

That's why Lord of the Rings is such a strong story. Tolkien started out with a world and its history, then wrote a story within that universe. And that's why (opinions on Rowling aside) I can't stand Harry Potter: because it was all made up as it went along, and it shows.

Same reason why when you're drawing or modeling something, it's a good idea to scale things with realistic measurements. It isn't necessary, and may never even come up. But if you do need to take measurements down the line or properly scale it against another object in the future, you'll be happy you did.

i tried to watch one of the fantastic beasts movies and they pulled so much ***. like, dude was licking the ground and then threw around a powder that showed a bunch of foot prints on the ground. no one blinks an eye and then he's like "she went this way! oh no! she wasn't alone! we must hurry she's in danger!"

like wtf is that? i don't remember that in the books.

Today while taking a walk, a random thought crissed my mind and made me feel sad.

Randomly i started to remember mangaa second match between Gutts vs Griffith (the one Gutts won) then i remembered i will never see the real decisive fight between them...

They just make everything up as they go along. It's OK for a while, but eventually your brain starts either consciously or unconsciously recognizing that there are no rules. In a world with no established rules, you can no longer feel any kind of thrill or excitement because you can't imagine the consequences.

Its pretty crazy, there has to be a reason. I went to ones in Rome and Spain and they have way higher standards, way more choices, and they add typical food from the country they are in that you wouldn't see here. They had a Cafe separate from the store too, McCafe lol.
