What a cabin in the U.S. used to mean:
I'm poor but I built a house with my bare hands.

What a cabin in the U.S. means now:
I'm rich and I need a place to go when I get bored of being in my house.

Always lots of land up here in the Great White North as long as you're willing to build on top of it. And if you insulate it well enough, a wood stove is all you need to keep it warm.

Two unexpected bangers of April Fool's jokes from two development teams I never would have suspected.

First FFXI's devs with their April 1st Patch Notes (where they went as far as to even add some of the things to the game XD), and now this...!



They could've just left it as a joke, but they actually made a full-fledged game out of it!

oh, and by the way its illegal to 'squat' on the land, so in order to reside you'll need to spend approximately $120,000 for utility hookups and sewage lines to be run from the nearest existing line 14 miles away, then around double the contractor rate to get anyone to build anything 126 miles from the nearest town! But hey- you own 80 acres for $5,000!

Property tax means that even if you "OWN" it outright, the government will take it away, because you will make improvements on the land, increasing its value, then they will reassess it, raise taxes so that you cannot afford to pay them, then they will take the land and resell it, so your nice hard work helps line their pockets instead of yours.

Property taxes are evil. you pay rent to the government for what you "OWN"

but hey, maybe you are lucky and find such a remote place that there are not taxes?

Well, Ive been marking my PDF to make it easier to review after the first reading, but now the highlights have like 1 second lag every time I apply.

It has been annoying me terribly, Im not sure how to fix it, I didnt expect having performance issues when highlighting PDFs...

To add onto a horrible day yesterday, a pin in my motherboard socket got bent by taking the cpu out. Either have to fix it myself or go bring it to a jeweler and try to pay them to try to do it. Sounds dumb but they would be the most well equipped people who are commercially available and approachable who deal with such tiny little fragile things all the time.

It would be a cure for boredom.

Im only wasting my saturday watching youtube videos.

I could play some game but i feel like i want to take a break from that for a time.

I need to setup my driving simulator to learn some, but ive been very lazy lately.

My sister is having some family problems. I really hate to know people around me having problems. Im a strong believer there is only one problem in the world: the lack of ability to deal with problem. But i also think that said ability is extremely hard to learn because people simply arent aware they dont need to suffer from problems: just solve them, or mitigate its impact. Life is a continuous cycle, good and bad things come in go. But if you dont mitigate problems effect, that cycle will turn in a vicious cycle.

The trick is turning a vicious in a virtuous cycle.

That demand a lot of mental strength though.

Unfortunelly its a strength our society never cared to teach.

I have a similar-ish story. I was in college and I was driving with an expired registration (the joys of being a clueless new adult). A cop rightfully pulled me over and wrote me up. So far so good.

He told me to call the courthouse in a couple weeks to check on the status of the ticket. I did, it wasn't in the system yet. They told me to call in a week. I did, it wasn't in the system yet. Rinse, repeat, until I said "screw it" after six months.

About two years later, I receive a letter saying that I have a warrant for my arrest. Why? Because the cop took over 18 months to turn in the ticket and the court summons was dropped off at my old address and therefore was never served to me personally, which led to my failure to appear for a court date I never knew I had.

I don't know if you can sue in that scenario, but when I did eventually appear before a judge they just dropped the failure to appear charge and I was still stuck with the expired registration fee. I guess your approach depends on the level of revenge you want to achieve, but you should probably consult a lawyer first!
