/highfive to my fellow FF lovers who without working up a tizzy are just waiting for all 3 installments to be truly finished-state by SE before starting it.

The 3rd one will be ready in time for Playstation 17 to be released. That same month they'll bring Empy items back to login pts.

ff7 ever crisis is available for download/install now.
it's not ready for playing till servers turn on later tonight jst.

People were review-bombing it hard, apparently because they did the pre-download and didn't realize that the game wasn't live yet, so they freaked out when it wouldn't load.

On one hand, people need to pay more attention. On the other hand, all that SE had to do was put up a friggin' message in-game explaining when it was going to go live. Instead, players got the loading screen of death or a generic message telling them to check their connection.

This happens with every mobile/gacha game release ever. People are very *** stupid.

Far as the game itself goes, it's alright. Boils down to being Dffoo w/ an ff7-only theme and an ATB system instead of turn based. Dungeons added in there too. Coop is pretty much identical. Character progression and esper boards pretty much identical. Gacha is almost the same except the stamps are there instead of a pity shop.

Lot of red flags added on top too though. Limited time sale popups every 10 minutes, expensive pulls, poor pull economy, the pity system does have exceptions and you need to pull a LOT to get what you want, potentially. Subscriptions are like $15 PER WEEK, not even per month. Mildly annoying but there's no English VO (many gachas have this these days, from companies much smaller than Square Enix), and the 30fps cap is mind boggling.

And even limited weapons come with 3/4-star versions, so they're not terribly hard to get if you're just wanting them for collection purposes, or fine with building them over time.

Yeah those are huge "nopes" from me. I tried Raid: Shadow Legends one time and it was scary how many ads and stuff kept popping up. With how quickly they moved stuff around, I was genuinely worried that I was going to accidentally click on one of their $100 bundles or something. As your finger goes down to one "X" to close an ad, another pops up over top of it with a "Best Value: $500 bundle!" button right where the "X" was.

I don't find Mobile games worth the risk most of the time anyway. At best, they tend to be Skinner Boxes. Hooking you in with lots of rewards, flashing lights, and in Square-Enix's case nostalgia bait, then slowly take it away so you need to do more daily chores for FOMO. But you don't want to quit because you're already level 50 and you've already sunk all that time (and maybe even money) into it. Are they actually fun? Not even a little bit. Fun would require a fair challenge, but they're often really easy until you hit a brick wall that costs either a "few bucks" or days upon days of daily login chores to overcome. And then the servers shut down after 9 months and you lose all of that time and money anyway.

Off to a good start.

Actually gave up rerolling for it and settled for a pull that gave weapons for everyone else, then got 3 copies in the 2 pulls after (1 guaranteed).
2/3/2 stamps too, so making great progress towards the costume.
Only finished chapter 1 of FF7 so far, but rather enjoying it. Set up my Chocobo before I head off for the night, and gonna try criterion dungeon tomorrow before I carry on with Crisis Core.

Whew, I was hesitating trying this game because I felt like it would be consuming. Looking at this post bullet dodged, uninstalled!
I really was looking forward to this too.

It's a real money thing, so yeah, stay away.
Doesn't seem like spending does much though. They really want you to, but it's mostly just speeding up timers or extra farming drops. For people who are okay with long-term grinds, there's really not much incentive to spend. Though I suppose we don't know how events work yet, so that could go *** up.

I mean, gacha has nothing to do with intelligence, but with addiction.

So many people get in drugs only to feel the “rush”. Others simply pick the gaming.

Its like you build a tension for hours/tries until you havacthat 1 second of ecstasy of hitting the jackpot.

I mean, its obviously destructive playing those kind of games, but we know what they (we?) are looking for. I just hope there is enough willpower to leave when enough is enough.

That said, i can not say i didnt enjoy Xenoblade 2 gacha system. It made me farm for hours a hundred of gems only for 1 or 2 rare blade.

FFRK gacha was more destructive to me, in the end i was paying a FFXI subscription with mules per month for extra pull.

Well, i just watched Forspoken expleeened (by Storymode).

I wonder if people actually think that Frey is living in another world fighting demons. My interpretation is that this is like that FF where the protagonist dies early, then lives a dream world in the purgatory, only to find peace when they finally ascend.

Honestly it feel kinda sad, how those protagonists live such an unfulfilling life, only to find a meaning, some peace, some happiness in the afterlife. Even being completely oblivious that they are already done for good.

There are some red flags that show this kinda of story: people who are just a nobody, unable to fit the world, the out of nowhere they because the center of universe; impressive recovery from a near death or suicide situations; magical new world, thats parallel to the real one.

Damn…. The story just need to make a small reference to Alice in Wonderland. There is no higher red flag than someone being interested in the story for them to meet its end quite fast

It's an evil concoction of a little this a little that.

Little bit of gambling, little bit of skinnerbox, little bit of shiney/flashy attention grab, little bit of dopamine, little bit of titties, little bit of fan service, little bit of "the newest thing"

A wide net, the more ***they throw on there the more likely you are to ignore better judgement to "try it out, it's free what's the worst that could happen"

"It's only 5 bucks"

"It's only 20 bucks"

"Well now if I don't spend more the first $25 was a waste"

I think MMO has a different type of addiction.

More like an escapism type of addiction. People trying to find something more meaningful in virtual world than real world.

Be it more friends with similar tastes, be it some grind you think worth doing.

I think funny where we are more motivated to grind dozen of mythics , than grinding money in real life, for example.

Thats how it is. Life is just boring in the end. We are not heroes in real life, we dont have high dps nor -50%DT. We are weak, fragile, and if we die tomorrow, maybe only a dozen of people will actually miss you for more than a week

Idk, i feel like the behaviorism is the most tried and true pattern ever written.

But people just dont feel like accepting their supposed intellect is no more than their guts talking.

If you break it down I think one could argue it's a gambling addiction. In the pay to play model the RNG dopamine hits are smaller and more spaced out but in turn you "only" have to pay a flat rate... and spend lots of time.

The gatcha type games with ingame shops and loot boxes are even closer to regular gambling since you can get larger RNG dopamine hits in shorter succession but you have to pay for each one.

Other differences are these type of games probably have several extra layers of predatory behavioural psychology (for instance a sense of progression for your time investment that plays heavily into the sunken cost falacy) over regular casinos, there haven't been any regulations anywhere in the world for over a decade with only a couple of countries starting timid attempts to change that and they can be targeted not just at adults but also juveniles and children.

I'm pretty sure that's what kept me coming back. I was the only person from my class to go to the high school I went to, so everyone else had their cliques from day one. Couldn't drive, no one nearby, lost touch with my previous classmates. Suddenly this game comes out. "I like Final Fantasy. I'll give it a shot"

Bam. People to talk to, a common hobby, making friends left and right. A mechanically-intense game that lends itself to heavy optimization, and therefore theorycrafting and strategy. Designed from top to bottom to encourage communication while grinding away. Fun grind by way of making even the most mundane fights open to optimization.

Real life didn't have any of that. Allow me to escape to Vana'diel.
