I dont have a problem with diversity hires when all things are equal, I dont think most people have a problem with that. The problem isnt hiring "skill level 7 minorities for a skill level 7 job", the problem is hiring "skill level 5 minorities for a skill level 9 job" because of diversity requirements.
I regret to inform you that this has little to do with minorities.
Skill level 9 experienced workers cost $45/hr. But skill level 5 workers with no experience cost $20/hr. Businesses will hire unskilled monkeys of any race, color, creed, or national origin in order to save that $25/hr.
Just look at Boeing.
The best part is that you turn this shrewd business strategy to save huge amounts of money into a virtue, that then people will defend ferociously.
It's quite impressive really.
10 years ago you would be expected to hire a top quality writer/s with a long history of success and they would demand a large amount of money to work on your new project, as well as demand artistic freedom. Now you just hire anyone and as long as you can manipulate the public into thinking it's virtuous they will defend you shoveling tripe into their mouth from anyone complaining. They will defend the Star Wars Acolyte, or whatever else even though it's laughable garbage, because they understand human psychology and the power of ideology.
I love it when corporations use good intentions as a weapon against critics, it's kind of funny because it works incredibly well.
Another example I saw a while ago was a highly paid sports star was getting millions of dollars to anchor a show, and they hired a fairly unknown female co-anchor. Then news spread that he was getting paid so much more than her, he was shamed into taking a large paycut. Just as planned.
