Indeed!!! How else can you get 10 cups worth of coffee for twice as much as a pound of whole beans?

You can get the same effect by lighting a dollar bill on fire and throwing 1/2 oz of recyclable* plastic away every time you have a cup of joe.

*I once worked in recycling. Plastic recycling is indeed a scam. But we desperately need it to work. And it is getting closer to reality every year.

any alternatives? idk brewing a whole pot when it's just me drinking coffee seems excessive. maybe i could get the premade brews at the store? that's probably still more cost-effective than iced coffee at starbucks

I've been in car crash before. When it happened I didn't even feel pain. I was walking and moving like normal and I thought I was uninjured.

Several hours later I started to feel terrible pain. THEN I realized I was in fact injured and went to the hospital.

You can't really judge someone's health condition until that person checked with doctors. Just because someone is walking, doesn't mean the impact did nothing to the body.

Maybe his injury is not severe, but that's different from saying he is uninjured lol.

If you drink say a cup a day, a 1kg bag of beans (2.2lbs) will last you two months or so, depending on type of coffee.

I can compost used grounds and filters. Or just use the grounds as fertilizer in a bunch of applications.

And I hope they aren't flat burning plastic. There are waste incinerators / generators that safely can burn plastic though.

Keurig is horrible and the coffee is so bad. You really don't want to go back when you get those nice espresso machines from Europe. We really do have the worst watered coffee in America

I mean I guess if you consider a pot of coffee that is made in the morning, that you then drink from for the rest of the day as "fresh" coffee then sure, I guess that works.

12 bucks a pound for vermont coffee company beans(costco). About 10 grams to pull a shot, so you get maybe 45 out of a bag. Works out to about 27 cents.

Kirkland kcup pods are 35 cents, peets/starbucks are more like 62 cents even in bulk. They're also only about 10 grams of coffee, so they are more expensive. Even if you have 3 shots a day and use peets/starbucks, it'll take 2-3 years to break even on most espresso machines.

Don't think that's a great argument for savings, though if you have a lot of coffee drinkers you can probably shorten the timeline. Seems pretty well agreed that you get a better cup out of similar quality whole beans though, and you have way more options. Plus, you can do an Americano with an espresso machine but you can't make an espresso with a kcup pod.

Coffee is a productivity consumable, while money is just the product of your effort.

Buying a machine that improve the quality of your productivity consumable is an investment instead of cost.

I do think about buying a machine to have a better coffee when I move to my new home.

The coffee I usually drink daily has very low quality admittelly, so I think worth the price improving its taste at least.

I've been to India a few times. The airport security is insane, I'd say more serious than the US. Mostly because they are always scared of Pakistani Muslims.

I wouldn't believe they faked confirmation he was on the plane unless there was some financial motivation but noone is going to kill 250 people for the cash to do a few interviews or a book. This is a mad dumb position to take.

Good preparation improves the quality of your coffee even if you use low quality beans. But ...

That survivor guy probably bribed the UK government too so they wouldn't find out. /s

RA doesn't even know what "corruption" really means when they used this term lol. Corruption means an exchange of benefit (aka paying) and generally the lower number of people that need to bribe the better. It's a very low profile activity that wants minimal amount of attention.

Nobody is going to bribe a whole border control office, all the police on site, the whole airline company and dozens of bystanders plus US/UK investigators just to become famous as a plane crash survivor and not get caught. There are 100 more efficient ways to utilize corruption and bribery money than this lol.
