Why are some games sticky in the arcade section? I mean there's no real reason to make differences.

Silly question, but up to what point in time does a copyright/patent on intellectual property become public domain? If I recall it was 32 years or so. Not sure how the renewal process works, or how public domain operated products are enforced, but wouldn't it mean that old school NES and SNES games will be free and open for remastering and re-release without threat of cease and desist letters?

I only know copyright info on like pictures and images lol, I'm not sure if it's the same time frame or different :| Because I remember a long time ago, this group of people developed a sort of remake of Chrono Trigger with full three dimensional graphics but staying true to the game and changing absolutely no content therein. Unfortunately as you could imagine that was infringing on Square's rights to their intellectual property. However, the game has been around since 1994, despite numerous re-releases via Nintendo DS, Nintendo Virual Console Shop and the Playstation Network, so I wonder if the original game in say 14 years would be free for projects such as the one that was shut down.
Also reading about Chrono Break pisses me off. Developers abandoning their own projects and blaming it on the consumer saying they're not buying enough. Since when is it our obligation to buy your ***to compel you to make a decent game that we actually want?
