Stupid limitation I think, well at least on Off-topic boards.
I can understand that "serious" thread shouldn't be spammed, but some thread are kinda "meant" to be spammed. The "random thread" is perfectly fine as it. Who care if someone post 10 time in 1 minute anyway, there's no important content to read, check pics and move on :s
The only way to limit people is to have more moderators and have specific rules concerning "spamming". An automated limitation is pretty bad.

The point being, the mods have been very lenient with our freedom to post and that privilege has been abused numerous times. The mods don't have the time or liberty to check on us and babysit us everyday. A systematic limitation to posts in succession would be a great way to keep things in line without needing the mods to slap our wrists every time we get crazy.

And all that content is not important, so w/e if thread reach page 65. It's not like people are preventing someone from getting a serious answer to a good FF XI related question. I'm against spam when it comes to serious thread, in all others, it should remains free for all (with SFW content only off course, no insults etc... you got me). And what about getting more mods ? I dunno how many "active" (1 post / week at least) posters FFXIah have, but to give you a reference, on another board I'm going, we have about 300 moderators for 15,000 active posters. And believe me no spamming occur or you'd get warned/suspended really fast because they're always a mod on.

And what about getting more mods ? The mods have life, they don't need to be going on threads and locking them cause people decide to spam with porn.. It's not edict for people to be doing that. Limiting to a short time where a set person can not post will help this. If it's a serious debate for exp. I'm sure they will wait for this and continue posting. But limiting it for spammers will HELP THE MODs. =D

I like how you answer "the mod have (a) life" when I said what about getting more mods. A moderator ain't supposed to be online 24/7 yes. That's why you get MORE, to always have AT LEAST (AT ANY HOUR) a moderator on. That's for LEGAL issue. Any member could post at any time illegal content. It's the webmaster/owner of this website duty to take care of the content his visitors post. If someone decide to post, let's say porn (real one, with full nudity, and not random anime stuff), what would happen if no mod is online ? That's completely irresponsible... For a website with a large audience like this one, including a LOT of teens/young people, someone should always be on, ready to lock/delete content that's either offensive or completely illegal. Now I'm only talking about porn, it could be even worse if someone decided to post CP... Legal actions could be taken against whoever host this website if such content would remains online, for... let's say 8 hours (average duration of a "mod's night"). Artemicion said: Ashamed to include my name within the quote? ._. Nope, first time I press quote button, then I copy/paste while typing BBCode tags manually.

Why would we need more mods if the solution can be applied systematically?

Could make alternate account + change IP ~ use proxy. You won't prevent anything with something automated, that's just plainly stupid.

Just seems like a waste of effort to hire more mods when a simple code change can keep things in (more) order on the forums. Thunderz said: Well lets look at it this way. Catch my drift?

Quote: I rather see 60 posts within an hour instead of 600. Catch my drift? This would never happen from a user anyway, only a "real" spam-bot (like advertising spam bot) would do this. And that's a completely different issue.

The purpose would be to limit the excess. The mods are there to keep things in order as far as content and attitudes go. The less they have to clean up the better.

With a 1min/post limit there wouldn't be "less" to clean anyway... You'd need at least a 1 post / 5 min / thread limit. But this could be an issue, like we're talking right now, you and I been posting twice within a 5 minutes window. Now I've ran a website in the past (120K unique visitors / day), and I'm a mod on another board, from my experience, scripts don't prevent anything when it comes to "normal users" (aka not robots). I'm all fine using anti-spammer script (against advertising bots) but that's it. Human fights humans. Scripts fights bots. The combo Report + Mod edit/warning/suspension/ban hammer is really really efficient. Not to mention you could also prevents user not "literally spamming" but just posting 1-2 words answers like "Ok" to do so. Same goes for trolling, insults, etc... Things a script can't do, and things a couple of mods cannot do either.

I'm sure this can be settled diplomatically should it be implemented. I'm more than sure there's something complex enough to squeeze tighter on limitations as posts become increasingly more frequent within a specific time frame. Similar to the green/yellow/red spam bar on the old *** version of AIM.
