FFXI will never die. You can NEVER leave the game.

My take on WoW Vs FFXI: No contest, FFXI wins. But want a bit more in depth explanation on my behalf? Well if so, keep reading cause its coming. If not, shoo. Okay so we all are familiar with abuses spouses right? Well if not a short recap on how it generally works: person a is mistreated by their loved one again and again. Person B will keep on going. Person A will never leave because of some mental block, I dont know. If person A leaves, Person A will want to go back... So why did I bring this up? Well look at wow, people join and quit that game quickly, sometimes with in the same week of joining! Often they never go back. Now look at FFXI. It kicks players ***. What do we do? We stay with it, we love it, we ask for more. Like all the people trying to kill AV are saying, "Please sir can I have some more?" and AV delivers a swift and brutal beating. We are the abused spouse to FFXI and we will never quit. We love it. In return it gives us gifts, we call these gifts: version updates. These can vary from something nice, like new skills and items to the brutal *** kicking in the campaign updates and monster tweaks.

On a serious note: WoW takes little/no skill. Kind of like a pattern match game. It takes speed, and that is it. its the same ***over and over. just how fast can you go through killing those 15 monsters? Or getting those 5 <insert monster>'s <insert body part/item/object>. All the way from 1 to 60 then 70 and now 80.

nah its not dead. this game is just a cycle that restarts itself. the majority of people who does think its dead are endgame players who have almost everything, and a lot of their endgame friends have moved on, and have been replaced by a lot of new players they know nothing about and are new to endgame activies.

I have been playing ff for a year (today!)

I just recently starting playing WoW with the BF. (i know, but i'm not a traitor i promise)

I like the graphics of wow, because some of the places are really pretty, but it's insanely easy. I'm used to losing XP because I F up.. but it's like there is no true reward system with WoW. You die, no xp lost, no bloodwarping, no test. There is not much of a big challenge, except for getting out of aggro range.

I like it, but FF will always be my full time MMO :)

I have a whole WoW faction at work I have to deal with listening to everyday -.-'' But from what they tell me, it seems waaaay too easy. I like the challenge that FFXI gives you, i love pt'ing with the JP(some of them >.>)..and all around the ppl are much cooler too...

I guess it also doesn't help that WoW gets advertised a lot on TV (or in the UK it does) but FFXI is never advertised anywhere like that. I reckon there would be a lot more people playing this if they knew it exsisted.

It's been a while since we had an "Is FFXI Dying?" troll thread. Anyways, me and troll thread are off to Page 10. Happy FFXIing.

depends how u see it.

ffxi has obviously passed its peak so it is on a decline, so you could say its dying but it does have many years left in it so at the same time it is very much alive.

If there is one thing i cannot stand is reference to Noobs. You have to remember your roots when u started. I enjohy helping and giving advice to new players. Thats what the game is about, interraction!
Some players get so lost in there "im uber as far as i know" attitude and start tossin the noob status out.
My definition of a noob is someone who never can grasp the concept of there job due to irresponsible decisions or doing what they want out of greed or selfishness or flat out being an ***.

Personally I like the latess trio of mini expannions. the full fledged ones are impossible to do becse you need aa aliae and sell your sould to some endgame shell a hope oneeday you might be able to get it done.

at least with crystal prop you can grab a few friends and go town on it.

I think it would be really cool if SE could expand and let us explore the Mithran continent more.. their homeland. I want to see what it was truly like in the past and present.

that would kick ***!

FFXI is like Natty Light to underage college kids. Sure, it tastes like ***, kicks their drunken *** around, and leaves them on their knees hugging the Porcelain God, but god dammit, its so cheap and thrilling.

WoW... is like... an acid trip. Sure, you try out shrooms because you're gullible and your friends pressured you into doing it. Then, after running around the block 500 times in the nude while singing "It's raining men", you'll soon realize that it wasn't as fun as your brain-dead friends said.

Comparing the two is like comparing a drunk college co-ed to a high-priced hooker. Sure, the co-ed(WoW) is drunk off her *** and wanting to ***, but in the morning you'll realize that she wasn't what you'd expect, especially after she hugs you and showers you with recycled beer, stomach acid, and shame. The high-priced hooker on the other hand(FFXI), leaves you wanting more, since she knows so much and is willing to share her secrets with you, for a price of course.

Our only real issue aside from RMT and a worn out system is the simple fact that the amount of people and development team is spread so thin working on other projects such as rapture, we get less than half of the focus, money and attention we used to.

Is this enough to kill the game? I strongly doubt it.

I changed my mind, after seeing these ridiculously quick expansions, I say FFXI is the drunk co-ed. She keeps putting out until she can't put out anymore. Then, you dump her *** in front of her sowhority house.

The expansions are fast and cheap to produce. They know people will pay for them.

£££, €€€, $$$.

SE is funding their next MMO. Nothing more, nothing less.

Do you think the security tokens actually cost anywhere near €9.99 to produce? Who, other than the poor, would allow such an extreme bonus to storage capacity pass them by?

That isn't to say FFXI is dying, nor will it be dead any time soon. SE will greatly shift its focus, however, rest assured.

Oh damn I forgot I was lurking...

Indeed, FFXI is the money sink for Rapture and the guinea pig playground for us to experiment upon it so they can see what they can get away with in the next bigger and better thing.

I have no problem milking FFXI dry until I feel I've had my fill and get into Rapture ^^

Hehehe, that's pretty true to almost any MMO for those not keen on self control but WoW is especially notorious of this.

.... In my opinion every update they release dumbs down the game more and more... how is this game "difficult" anymore?

Start a new character on a new server, without any help/money. Then you'll remember how irritating it is.

And Disintegration summed it up perfectly. Since I canceled my content ID, it's like a huge weight off my shoulders. :D

Yea but the junkie in ya keeps ya coming back to the forums. ^^

some of you people need to do some quick math.

500,000+ Registered users multiplied by $13 a month. (Not including extra content id's) EQUALS $6.5 Million. Times another 12 EQUALS $78 Million a year. Now this is not including all the expansions(when they were released), RL items such as clocks, dynamislord sculpture, among other random ***SE has brought out since release. Now just this month alone, they had Security Token 9.99 for everytime your token dies. And you know 80% of avid FFXI players are going to buy this JUST for the satchel. Wow I am still going on this reply, Now add the three new expansions 80% of the players are going to buy. Ok enough, FFXI is going no where except further into the history books, and deeper into MY pocket.

That "500.000+" era been gone for a long time. In 2006 SE claimed to have 500.000 subscribers. So they did in 2007 and 2008... except that /sea all across some servers ain't really reflecting this. At best we have 350.000~400.000 I'd say. There's no way we have as much players as we had in 2006.

Is that me or that steady 500.000 from 2006 to 2008 looks kinda fake ?
