Carn, Yag usable in pretty much all content all the time.

Tizona best BLU weapon but BLU isn't used all the time
DP/Gastra/Nirvana (great when applicable), Burt (great but not needed for anything)
Lib, Prime scythe better for DPS, great for abs and its damn fun.

I really wanted the GKT Prime after reading up on the names history. I still may make one, but sortie all the time is getting stale.

for 6-12 months of my life, is it that much better?
it's about 300-365 hours worth of my life. To get a CFA Level 1, 300 hours is required on average.
I might not get a CFA, but being aware of the time commitments for a prime weapon and the close to zero return on my time investment just makes me depressed.

Take a break, my guy. You can't weigh game-playing and RL goals as a 1:1, apples to apples comparison. The time spent on a prime weapon can be likened to that time you beat Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES, GoldenEye 007 on the N64, Shenmue on Dreamcast, FF7 on PS1, etc. It's mostly about trying to enjoy the journey and not really dwell on the end-result.

However, if you feel the need to compare the end-result of game-playing to RL goals, then take a break and do the RL goals first. When you're finished, you can return to game-playing and enjoy it, knowing you also leveled-up in RL too.

sound advice and I don't disagree in general. I'll go and spend a day doing nothing but sitting at the beach and drinking cocktails. That allows me to decompresss and I'll perform better the following work week.

But it's not the same when it comes to Sortie. It's a chore and repetitive. I'd rather spend that daily hour in a sauna offsetting aging and fortifying my body against cardiovascular disease or taking the dog for a walk.
Sorry I digress. All I am saying is there's a lot more beneficial ways to spend those 250-300 hours. Gaming is one of them, providing the gaming experience is fun. Sortie every day isn't.

That point of view is absolutely legitimate imho.
But then you already gave yourself an answer, why are you even bothering to know if Prime Scythe is "that much better" than Liberator?
Wether the answer is "no" or "yes" would it change anything?

I mean, with the sort of answer you gave, which makes perfect sense, you already know that it's not gonna be worth it regardless, so why even ask?

Life is all about point of views and how you interpret it.

On paper, 300-365h sounds like a massive amount of time. But if you look again, its merely about 2 weeks of commitment.

Just think that: 2 weeks of your life so you can have the best scythe in game for your entire life.

While doing a shitty course during same amount of time only to make a more educated guess over gambler falacy, but that in the end you gonna bankrupt, lose your house and dog and use gimpy scythe.

Seems I have a clear winner here.

As far as Prime Weapons go, you are required to make one to a minimum of stage 2 for TVR, aren't you?

The battlefield dont even let you enlist to the final battles unless everyone in party has equipped a prime.

Once inside though, I simply unequip them (BRD and WHM).

the nuance making your head hurt?
if you managed to read, you'd notice the grind in question was specifically about sortie, and not the entirety of FFXI. Try rereading the posts.

Nobody would have a problem with Sortie if they could no-life for two weeks and walk away with a prime. There is a big difference between 'two weeks' and 'hour daily for 8 months'. It's the gate, not the grind.

Is there a way to activate a singular roe using the roe addon and just add it to the list without taking any off?

Find a ROE you have always on and pair it with that one. Just be careful if its not a one-time use ROE and you also plan to unset it, as it will unset your always-on one too. If its a UNM you want to set/unset, use unmroe.

still relevant mythics imo (chime in please, this isn't an assertion and more of a question) -

1. Carnwenhan
2. Liberator ?
3. Burtgang
4. Tizona
5. Death Penalty
6. Gastraphetes
7. Nirvana
8. Yagrush

Ones that haven't aged well
1. Glanzfaust
2. Conqueror
3. Murgleise
4. Kogarasumaru

I'd add Aymur to the relevant ones: it will likely always remain uniquely powerful for its niche of enhancing pet Ready moves, and it's very solid for master DPS. If you could have only one BST weapon in the game, this is probably the choice.

I farm exclusively A because the gil is massively better than C, our entire static already has way more segments than we could ever hope to spend, and the segments really aren't that far off. We get 7.5k per run vs the 10k or so in C.
I'll bite on this one with the information available on wiki and some extrapolated. Wiki says Halos worth 50~410 depending on floor, UNM's are 80~200 depending on floor. Izzat to be spent on Chest instead of Junctions based on your criteria of "we have more segments than we can hope to spend". Will assume Chests cost 5, Coffers cost 7.
Floor 1: 7 families (70 * 5 = 350 segs) + halo (50) + junction (80) = 480 segs. 24 Izzat = 3 chests + 1 coffer (225 segs) with 2 Izzat carry over.
Floor 2: 9 families (90 * 7 = 630) + junction (100) = 730 segs. 20 Izzat = 3 chests (150) with 5 Izzat carry over.
Floor 3 = 6 families (60 * 9 = 540) + halo (135) + junction (120) = 795 segs. 22 Izzat earned + 5 Izzat = 3 Chests + 1 coffer (225 segs) with 5 Izzat carried over.
Floor 4 = 6 families (60 * 11 = 660) + Junction (140) = 800 segs. 17 Izzat = 3 Chests (150) with 2 Izzat carried over.
Floor 5 = 5 families (50 * 13 = 650) + halo (220) + junction (160) = 1030 Segs. 22 Izzat = 3 Chests + 1 Coffer (225 segs) with none leftover.
Floor 6 = 4 families (40 * 15 = 600) + junction (180) = 780. 1 Chest opened (50) with 3 Izzat carried over.
Floor 7 = 6 families (60 * 17 = 1020) + halo (410) + junction (200) = 1630. 25 Izzat = 2 chests + 2 coffers (250)

Presuming I didnt make any mistakes (I cant remember if floor 6 is 4 or 5 families), the total here is 7520 segments. The only thing not factored in is the ~25% bonus from the end conflux, so you need 6k base. If you jump right to floor 3 and full clear everything, that will net you 5k segments and 84 Izzat for chests/coffers which should easily cover the remaining 1k.

Full clearing 3 to 7 is 270 fodder, 18 halo + beastmen, 5 UNM's, about 300 mobs. 300 mobs that you cant AoE (cruel joke notwithstanding) in 30 minutes is doable, but you have to factor in all the *** running that Sheol A has. All of a sudden becomes a bit of a tall order.

I think some of these numbers are off, but I'm not sure what all the halos are worth. We never pop any NMs, either with pop items or with Izzat. There are 7 packs on F1, 8 packs on F2 (none in the center), 5 on F3, 5 on F4, 4 on F5, 4 on F6, and 7 on F7. Halos on 1, 3, 5, 7

Yes, you need to proc it to remove his para aura.

But this proc is one of the most random things ever. Supposelly it procs after fire dmg, but its a very low percentage of success, if thats actually the proc.

Kumhau proc is ***. I went something/run meleeing it from 100-0 with ignis and it never came off

Quote:
Aura Removal: Inflict fire damage till it removes the spikes, once spikes are gone Weapon Skill from behind him to remove the aura.

Need to do fire dmg from behind, and spikes of dmg have a better chance. I always do Light SC behind him and, while it is still not a guaranteed chance to remove, it comes off eventually. Just hitting it with fire from the front/flank isn't going to remove it.
