Hit 60, beat hell, and finished gathering whimsy items all in one swoop.
And suddenly feel kinda disenchanted. It was a fun ride getting to inferno, but like so many things I think it was the journey more than the destination. Granted I haven't actually played inferno yet but if everything I've read here and elsewhere is even half accurate, it's not something I'm looking forward to.
If I have to farm for gold endlessly just to get out of act 1, I'll probably break until 1.0.3. At least I feel like I got my money's worth even if I never pick up the game again.

I dunno, I guess I just ignore his cheating for the entertainment value he provides. It's like watching sports when you know they are using steroids but who gives a *** because it's more fun to watch that way.
I try not to get mad/jealous about it because it's not like I ever intended to be top tier or to be worlds first anything, hell I got the game a week after it came out. I'm pretty content with being the best out of my small circle of friends who play, and I honestly will probably never even play hardcore unless I get the achievement fever again.
I'd say it's more that i'm disappointing that he's trying to emulate his greatness when in all reality he hasn't done anything spectacular, I would have been more impressed if he turned away all the gifts and help and slaved it out by himself... By him getting the help, exploiting, and cheating just makes it seem more of a chore.

I don't think very many take it like an MMO, I think the problem is the Developers/Director tried to MMO'it without making it an MMO.
I have quite a few issues with the game, the least of which is how idiotic Rage timers are on a wholly Singleplayer/Co-Op style game... But in the end, I feel Diablo III suffers from laziness.
Removed Jewels, Charms, and Runes... White Weapons/Armor have 0 Reason to exist, mostly because of the removal of Runes... The Skill tree and removal of Stat allocation (Minor issues, but this is mostly my love of D2 talking anyway).
Fun game, But I'll probably Install Diablo II again before i devote any real hours to Diablo III, D2 just feels more fun. Diablo 3 Will catch up in a few patches/updates i'm sure, But 10~ Years in the making, it just feels like a game that was cooked up over-night.
Edit: But at others have said, Games fun for what it is, But I don't see many people investing months/years into playing it like they did with Diablo II, at least not until a few months in when they work out a lot of the issues/bugs.
Charms are a horrible system, Skill Tree and Stat Allocation is a horrible system. Basically you resort to whatever build you read on the internet, and if you take almost any skill before like, 25 you're build is ruined. Stat allocation is, for almost every class, "enough str to put on gear, rest in vit." Skill system in D3 is far superior IMO once you understand that D2 "customization" is just something to make noobs feel better about their choices, and cause people who want to play endgame to reroll characters constantly once a better build comes out.
D3 doesn't have these issues, and there are quite a few viable builds, but some are much, much more gear reliant than others.
Maybe it's just me, but people look at D2 with nostalgia goggles more than anything. For me the game is unplayable, now anyway.

Is it a good idea to be spending all my early gold on levelling up my blacksmith craft?

Quote: Charms are a horrible system
To each their own. They don't have to be Copy > pasted from Diablo II, But I always felt it was a good concept. Items that improved your character beyond the Equipment slot. Something i feel could have been vastly improved upon, Balanced, and continued to be enjoyable.
Quote: Skill Tree and Stat Allocation is a horrible system.
Stat Allocation? Yay, Probably, Its a bother for modern gamers. Easier to just have the game do it for you.
Skill tree? I disagree in opinion here. I liked having the option to make a character different each play through, and not be the same as every other character. I think Diablo II has a Skill Relocater option now too, So it solves the problem of messing up skill placement being a permanent "oops".
A lot of people followed "norm" builds, But you at least had the option to "Fk it" and Put skills into whatever you want... and That build would probably be viable to farming and beating the game.
Say what you will, But in Inferno, You're a** ain't going nowhere past Act II if You're not using certain skill combos, and unfortunately, Inferno really is the only good place to farm High-End gear... That really is the key difference between D2 and D3.
In D2, While there were optimal Builds, You weren't forced to use any, and you could probably pick any build you wanted and still be able to farm/Beat the game on Hell Difficulty. In Diablo 3, Especially in Inferno Mode, You really have no choice but the "Optimal Build" If you want to succeed.
On Weapons, Diablo II at least had weapons that were useful for reasons beyond their DPS, Due to Skill Improvements, Bonus Stats, etc. Because not all Skills relied solely on DPS. See, Diablo 3 had good intentions with its "Skills based on DPS" Design, But I feel instead of fixing the problem, they created a new one to replace it.
Quote: Basically you resort to whatever build you read on the internet and if you take almost any skill before like, 25 you're build is ruined.
You can reset Stats/Skills in Diablo II now if i'm not mistaken, Problem solved there (Or at least, Alleviated!).
That said, How is "You resort to whatever build you read on the internet" Different than what you do in diablo 3? If you're going to argue "Not everyone does that..." my argument is quite simply, Not everyone went to the internet to find builds for Diablo II, I know for certain I never once looked up "Optimal" builds for Diablo II, I visit A.Summit too look at items sometimes, But i always built my character around what I wanted.
Rather it be a Trap-Assassin, or a Blizzard Sorc, or a TankPLD... I did what i found the most fun. I don't do much different in Diablo 3, I just feel like most of the Skills/Runes are "Dafuq were they thinking?" Diablo II had some crappy skills, But at least it had Synergy with Skills, Giving some of them a reason to exist.
With a Skill tree, There were a lot of viable Builds... Hammerdin, etc. In this game, Especially on Inferno, There's only about 1-2 Viable Builds for any job. Both games suffer from the same problems, But in Diablo II, You'd have a harder time making a build that couldn't beat the game, in Diablo 3, You have to use a certain skill set to progress anywhere past Act I Inferno.
They're ironing out the Spike Damage in Inferno, So who knows!
Quote: Stat allocation is, for almost every class, "enough str to put on gear, rest in vit." Diablo II stats were pretty much STR/VIT, I agree believe that, Its not how I played, But it was the norm. in Diablo 3, You don't allocate your stats, But its just been moved somewhere else. Now its all in Gear. Funny how that works, Problem isn't solved, Its just moved to Gear... Instead of STR+VIT allocation, its "Your Jobs Main Mod + Vit" In gear.
I'm not saying Diablo III's system is bad, Simply, It could have been handled better, and what it feels like now is a little sub par. I felt in comparison Diablo II > Diablo III, but its an opinion, and i accept it completely as "Not Fact".
Quote: D3 doesn't have these issues, and there are quite a few viable builds, but some are much, much more gear reliant than others.
Have you played Act II inferno or higher yet? In Normal~Hell, Some builds may be viable, In Act II Inferno or deeper? You'll always have the same 4-5 Skills, and maybe 1 skill you can vary based on your taste. Passive will almost always be the same if you're serious about survival or doing anything without dying 1000 times.
Quote: Maybe it's just me, but people look at D2 with nostalgia goggles more than anything. For me the game is unplayable, now anyway.
It can't be Nostalgia Goggles when I'm still playing the game in 2012 can it? Only reason its not installed currently is due to a new computer, But i played it just a few weeks ago before D3 Came out. I'm still enjoying Diablo II very much. The game got a lot right. Its not perfect at all, and so much can be improved, I just feel like Diablo 3 didn't solve any issues, It moved them or created new ones.

Probably not since in an upcomming patch they're lowering the price of doing so.

I'll be glad when I am done sinking money into my stash. I guess I don't really -need- the room, but since I am going to be level 2 of every job at some point I want to have it available to store different tiers of gear (Like a level 10-20 set 20-30 set etc etc).

There's only 2 Tab Upgrades :X. So its 100k > 200k.
Hopefully they follow the same pattern 10k 10k 10k > 100k > 10k 10k 10k > 200k > (10k?)
It might be 20k, Don't know. But yah, Expensive early on, But once you reach Inferno and get some good AH Stuff, It becomes trivial. Unfortunately, that's a long time to wait :(

someone lend me gold >.> (jk of course lol) I got like 20k gold all last night just farming up them stupid items on normal, of course I promptly (and stupidly) spent it on some upgrades for blacksmithing and also consolidating some of my gems into higher grade gems.

my suggestion is, Once hitting around Hell Mode, Try buying a bunch of Gold Find+ gear. Until Inferno Act II~IV, or the next patch where good gear will drop in Act Inferno, Its best to stack Gold find as much as possible.
Bonus if you can deck out your Follower in Gold Find (You gain 20% of their bonus IIRC), and have Ferret companions! (DH Only).
Better to Inanimate Object farm when in this state though, Cause you'll likely never be able to kill any good mobs with you being nerfed in Gold Find gear >_>
By Gargenmoose 2012-06-07 07:13:14
With the gold find method running around in the royal crypt (Act 1 Inferno) you can run around smashing vases. It is pretty dry but it ends up averaging out to around 150-200k an hour with around 200% gold find.
Having the Ferret with to pick up gold while you run around really speeds the process up a bit, again this is really dry but I did this to pay for my staff upgrades.
If you can find some cheap gear that has magic find and gold find on it you'll see a few more tome's drop, etc. Good luck.

Believe they nerfed Royal Crypt gold farming as well, Gives diminishing returns after certain period.
Could of course have been a lie.

Thank you again blizzard for making a single player game online! THANK YOU!
I just hit a really rough patch of lag that just outright got me killed, twice...
Getting a little miffed at this game now.

I haven't messed with it in a couple days so they very well could have, I'm not sure if its just me but their patch notes etc. don't always seem clear so I barely pay any attention to them.
Thanks for pointing that out, I'll give that a try later on today.

You can pause the game if you see you are starting to lag, it doesn't solve the problem but it helps.
Only reason I would pause the game is to hurl living things against the wall in rage :x
seriously it's pissing me off, I'll get random as *** rubber banding just out of nowhere or just super *** huge amounts of lag... whoever designed this *** needs to be shot, ***on, set on fire, eaten, ***out again... then set on fire again.

Oh?
Yeah a lot lower than I had hoped, almost makes having anything under 600-800 per hit useless.
Life per Hit (Inferno)
-------------SIGNATURE SPELLS--------------
Magic Missle:
-Charged Blast: 100% (single target)
-Split: 33.8% per target hit
-Penetrating Blast: 24.6% per target hit
-Attunement: 100% (single target)
-Seeker: 100% (single target)
Shock Pulse:
-Explosive Bolts: 16.5% per target hit per bolt + 33% on explosion
-Fire Bolts: 33% per target hit. This includes per bolt. If more than 1 bolt hits, you get the benefit of both (ie: 2 bolts is double the healing 1 bolt is)
-Piercing Orb: 25% per target hit
-Lightning Affinity: 33% per target hit
-Living Lightning: 2% per tiny shock.
Spectral Blade:
-Deep Cuts: 88.8% per target per triple hit, bleed generates no healing.
-Impactful Blade: 66.6% per target per triple hit.
-Siphoning Blade: 66.6% per target per triple hit.
-Healing Blades: 66.6% per target per triple hit.
-Thrown Blade: 33.3% per target per triple hit.
Electrocute:
-Chain Lightning: 16.5% per target hit
-Forked Lightning: 16.7% per target hit, unsure of auxiliary bolt healing (test?)
-Lightning Blast: 16.7% per target hit, successive hits heal all in one tick as a lump sum
-Surge of Power: 25% per target hit
-Arc Lightning: 16.7% per target hit
-------------SECONDARY SPELLS--------------
Ray of Frost:
- (All Runes): 33% per tick for all runes except Sleet Storm. Remember that ticks are every half second, so if you channel for 2 damage ticks (ie: anything longer than a brief touch), you'll see a 66% healing number because it adds them up.
-Sleet Storm: 50% per target per tick
Arcane Orb:
-Obliteration: 33% per target hit
-Arcane Orbit: 25% per target hit
-Arcane Nova: 16.7% per target hit
-Tap the Source: 33% per target hit
-Celestial Orb: 20% per target hit
Arcane Torrent:
-Disruption: 20% per missile per target hit
-Death Blossom: 60% per missile per target hit
-Arcane Mines: 50% per mine explosion per target hit
-Power Stone: 20% per missile per target hit
-Cascade: 20% per missile per target hit, cascading missiles generate no healing (? needs further testing)
Disintegrate: (remember that ticks are every half second, so if you channel for longer than 0.5 seconds, you see the sum of the healing for 1 second or 1 tick, which is 22% per target). A "touch tick" in this case is just tapping the monsters with the beam for 1/4 second, not channling.
-Convergence: 11% (22%) per target per touch tick.
-Chaos Nexus: 11% (22%) per target per touch tick + 11% (22%) per target per tick of the sub-beam.
-Volatility: 12.5% (25%) per target per touch tick, explosion value unknown for now
-Entropy: 16.7% (32%) per target per touch tick
-Intensify: 16.7% (32%) per target per touch tick
NOTE: Wraith did some testing with conflicting results. Here are his results for Disintegrate:
-Convergence: 33.3% per ½ second (per target hit)
-Chaos Nexus: piercing beam 33.3% per ½ second (per target hit), small beams 22.2% per ½ second against 1 target, being near 2 targets gave inconsistent results but seemed to average around 33.3% per ½ second (more testing required), 3 targets either kill me or die too quickly at the spots I tried testing at.
-Volatility: 23.46% per ½ second (per target hit), explosion ???
-Entropy: 50% per ½ second (per target hit)
-Intensify: 50% per ½ second (per target hit)
-------------DEFENSIVE SPELLS--------------
Frost Nova:
-Frozen Mist: 10% per target per tick in the ice patch
Teleport:
-Calamity: 10% per target hit by the wave on arrival
-------------FORCE SPELLS--------------
Wave of Force:
-Impactful Wave: 16.7% per target hit
-Force Affinity: 16.7% per target hit
-Forceful Wave: 16.7% per target hit
-Teleporting Wave: 16.7% per target hit
-Exploding Wave: 16.7% per target per hit. Sub-waves do not generate any healing.
Energy Twister:
-Mistral Breeze: 10% per target per tick
-Gale Force: 10% per target per tick
-Raging Storm: 10% per target per tick, for both big and little tornados
-Wicked Wind: 10% per target per tick
-Storm Chaser: 10% per target per tick of the regular tornados, 21.4% per target per tick for the big sig tornado
Hydra:
-(All Hydras): 0%, they don't heal
Meteor:
-Molten Impact: 50% per target per impact, plus 25% per burning tick per target
-Star Pact: 50% per target per impact, plus 25% per burning tick per target
-Meteor Shower: 19.7% per target per impact
-Comet: 50% per target per impact, plus 25% per cold tick per target
-Liquefy: 50% per target per impact, plus 25% per burning tick per target
Blizzard:
-Grasping Chill: 2% per tick per target
-Frozen Solid: 2% per tick per target
-Snowbound: 2% per tick per target
-Stark Winter: 1% per tick per target
-Unrelenting Storm: 2% per tick per target
-------------CONJURATION SPELLS--------------
Familiar:
-(All Familiars): 0%, they don't heal
-------------MASTERY SPELLS--------------
Archon:
-Arcane Destruction: 20% on explosion per target hit
-(Archon beam ability): 25% per target per tick
-(Archon melee ability): 50% per target hit
-(Archon explosion ability): 20% per target hit
Explosive Blast:
-Unleashed: 33% per target hit
-Time Bomb: 33% per target hit
-Short Fuse: 33% per target hit
-Obliterate: 12.5% per target hit
-Chain Reaction: 11% per target hit per each explosion (you get 3 explosions per cast of the spell)
Credit to Grumbul on the Mirror Image thing here.
Mirror Image:-Mocking Demise: 50% per target hit per image detonation
-Mirror Mimics: 0%, image damage does not heal
