We all knew that Yamamoto wasn't going to beat the main villain, so it was quite predictable that he was going to be defeated.
Could have been a plot twist that who we thought to be the main villain wasn't really the main villain, so he was defeated right there. Instead it went like that...with a clone...meh.

I'm fine with how things are turning out, but I am curious how this is supposed to last another few years. At the rate the story is going, it just doesn't seem like it would take that long.
Kubo could do like every single mangaka does:
They are defeated yet manage to escape, they spend X time building up power, time skip, they attack the bad guy out of nowhere and win (One Piece, Psyren, many others). But Kubo being the troll he is, he'll take another path. I just hope it won't be as laughable as what he has done with the manga so far. You'd rather Kubo not kill anyone? The fact that Kubo is actually killing people off is great. Yamamoto isn't the main character which means he has no reason to live. Your example getting beat and coming back stronger has been applied to Ichigo numerous times.
I'm ok with people dying, there is actually a reason for Yamamoto dying, I agree with this.
What I don't like is the way things are brought up and how in the end, a character such as Yamamoto is worthless. Despite his position, the way he tried to hype him up was plain bad and in the end, if he dies, that's just flat. I guess I just don't like the way Kubo brings things up in general. But I'll stay a typical shounen reader, hoping that things will get better years after years. The way Netero is brought up when he dies against Meruem is a masterpiece in comparaison. To give you an example of how a very important character, yet not the main one, has to die. I knew the General was gonna die and that that dude was a fake. After all that silver haired quincy dude, the main boss's subordinate was still alive. I simply thought he was the true villain, disguising himself because he hasn't fought anybody yet.

I have to admit I came into this arc really late, and I typically don't read the manga, but since the anime is done I wanted to see what the new chapters were like... the last few have been lame as ***imho >_<.

How did yamamoto go down in one attack thats ridiculous.
Hopefully the explosion was angry unohana or something. I didn't expect him to go down that quickly. I'm guessing the explosion is caused by Yourichi. We haven't seen her around yet or I'm assuming we haven't.

I think it's Ichigo too, finally breaking through the barrier. I'm thinking he's in Hollow Mode or something (finally) and will just crush everything in his way (so ONLY the Quincy >_>).
Its the old man turning into the fire monster from a thousand ago that was shown in the picture at the start. When the kid ask what if it comes back and the next page has the old man saying I might not come back or something to that effect. I bet that is what the explosion is.
0 division is coming.. *** yeah
