Biden has it in him to connect with the crowd and deliver but his painful flaw of being gaffe-prone is something that he can be roped into by Ryan.

Coming off Obamas debate this would be a great place for Biden to earn his keep for the campaign by slam dunking it. Ryan is ideological and has weaknesses that can be exploited but can Biden do it without tripping all over himself?

The guys like a crazy older uncle you can't predict.
I hope uhhbama dose unleash Biden, that would be absolutely the worst thing he could do.

I find it a bit astounding that people see canadian healthcare as socialized medicine, when it's not. The ACA is explicitly designed to work the same way as Canada's Universal Healthcare, which is broken up amongst the provinces, which have had many differing opinions on how to govern each health region. There are federally mandated quidelines that must be followed, but each province has to seek it's own funding from the governing federal body for it's regional needs.

There's also the fact that only emergency services, medicare that is deemed necessary to the prevention of loss of life or limb, that is covered. Other than that, there are regional and provincial programs that need to be applied for in order to recieve additional coverage to the cost of medicare which isn't automatically covered by federal mandates.

That aside, The "Death Panels" were myths created by insurance companies to scare the public into voting down the bill. Many insurance companies in the US hold the power to make the decision to cut a person off from essential life support if they believe said person will not recover in what they call a reasonable amount of time, regardless of a medical professional's opinion that a patient will recover if given enough time.

What this section of the ACA does, is give power back to the medical professionals to inform the patient's family of the state of the patient, and make a recommendation to continue support, or to remove support to end a patient and his/her family's suffering.

Strangely, this "death panel" concept isn't foreign

It's a myth. The fact of the matter is Republicans have no fkn idea how pharmaceuticals and health-care work. Yet they seem to comment on it a lot.

Republicans are using the "death panels" myth as a medium to attack federal drug-assistance programs.

It's no myth. There will be panels full of government appointed beurocrates that decide weather or not life extending care is given to those seeking it.

When over 50% of the money we all spend in healthcare is spent in the last few year/months of our lives, it's a pretty effective way to curb costs.

I'm salivating for the Ryan - Biden debate. Watching Biden fumble over himself will be like watching the Americal Idol contestant who thinks she can sing make a fool of herself.

Hopefully Ryan will be more of a Simon Cowell and less of a Paula Abdul!

Tell you people this. If obama gets in
#1 Even BIGGER GOVERNMENT. Even Hitler would be proud of him.
#2 Only a mater of time our USA will be Socialistic Country. All ready is in some aspects.
#3 To days society don't want to work, they rather let the government take care of them, hid there dam heads in the sand to see whats really happening. Soon they will be no more Little Red Hens to take care of you (government will drive small and big businesses away)So then where will the government money come from. Oh wait, you will work for them, they tell when you can take a ***, etc. What do they call that?
USA turns in to a Communistic Country.
It will happen if we stay the course. I hope to GOD this will not happen, but society (lazy, care less about there self and others, abortions, pills, killing off civilization, no morality, should I go on?)
This world in a down spiral. Only a matter of time.

Has to be trolling for mentioning Hitler, but anyways.

Poor english aside, what's socialist about Obama's policies? If it's Obamacare, well I'm sorry to tell you it's not a socialist program. Canada's healthcare program is socialist, it has it's own issues but it's a great program.

We speak american get it right, and if canada's social healthcare is so awesome..why does everyone come down south for care?

The nonpartisan Fraser Institute reported that 46,159 Canadians sought
medical treatment outside of Canada in 2011, as wait times increased 104
percent — more than double — compared with statistics from 1993.

Specialist physicians surveyed
across 12 specialties and 10 provinces reported an average total wait
time of 19 weeks between the time a general practitioner refers a
patient and the time a specialist provides elective treatment — the
longest they have ever recorded.

Yes, our healthcare system is heavily flawed, and we lack programs or treatment and care options which can only be found outside canada, often times patients opt for this course because of:
1. It's cheaper
2. There is access
3. There is immediate access

There's a fine line between "rationing" of healthcare, which already exists in healthcare might I add, vs denying coverage for specific drugs/treatments.

But it's ironic, the same individuals who are using the term "death panels" so loosely, have this individualistic mentality: "I have insurance and I don't have a pre-existing condition, therefore healthcare reform is not needed" well, good luck when healthcare is too expensive and when you get cancer. Saddening.

Verbage offers legitimacy to one's claims, in the form of communication.

That aside, there are roughly 35million people living in Canada that are accounted for, and the biggest wait time increase is happening in Alberta. With the closure of one of Calgary's largest medical centers, the General Hospital, the Alberta Health Region decided to sell the land, which was expressly written in the land owner's will that only hospitals and other facilities of like nature be built, sold it to a land developer instead.

Part of the increased wait times has been the decision to cut back on the number of rooms hospitals will allow for patient stay, and the reduction of hospital beds.

As pointed out above in another post, there is also the issue of cutting medical field jobs, and not paying the required professionals the same amount of money as their US counterparts.

Parts of the provincial and federal governments of canada have cut back on funding programs or initiatives that would seek to have our professionals stay in canada. There are also other factors that will increase hospital wait times, such as nurses who simply do not care, or will admit small injuries over life-threatening ones.

As i'm sure many people may not be aware (and kudos to those that are) an Edmonton woman was denied immediate service by the admitting nurse, despite having complained of severe abdominal pain ontop of her pregnancy. Unfortuneately the child was lost, and the mother nearly died as well.

There was the story of another individual, a younger man in his early 20's, who died of internal problems. I can not quite recall the specifics, but he had been denied immediate attention again by admitting nurses in 3 different hospitals - one reason was because there simply were not enough patient care beds.

I have also experienced some of these issues. A number of years ago when i was still in junior high, grade 9, was having an incredibly hard time breathing. Could potentially have been an asthmatic episode or another constriction of the airways. I spent 6 hours in the waiting room, watching as people with splinters in their feet and hands, who were admitted only minutes after arriving, enter before myself, and the others who had been waiting patiently. After about 4 hours in the emergency waiting room, i went up to the admitting nurse, and politely asked when i would be able to get in, albeit with a raised voice, as mine was already shakey from trying to breathe. "Your voice sounds fine if you can come up and complain to me about getting in to see the doctor." Such was her response.

You're missing the point. The "rationing" that exists in a privatized system is different, providers have an incentive to remain competitive. If I am denied by one carrier I can at least take my business to another provider. In a government run system the board that makes the call is accountable to no one. There is no other choice. The "solution" only makes the problem worse. But who cares Obama is awesome and totally trustworthy, go first black president!

<Hey, at least you're acknowledging that the panels will exist in the govt. run system.>

Competitive? Aka you mean denying coverage b/c of pre-exisiting conditions or they simply can't afford insurance?? Better business doesn't equate better healthcare I'm sorry to inform you.

Ragnarok.Nausi said: »

Unless you have a pre-exisiting health condition, then you can't get any coverage. That concept within itself is a "death panel"- the ability to deny coverage to someone because they posses a pre-existing health condition.

Ragnarok.Nausi said: »

I'm not acknowledging that any panels will exist. The only people who claim these panels will exist are those who lack basic knowledge of healthcare and medicine. People need to come to grasp with the concept of death, a natural process of life. Simply because you arn't receiving that uber-expensive medication doesn't mean your doctor or your provider has failed you- particularly when that medication only extends your life for 2 months and has numerous side-effects that LOWER the quality of life. People need to stop associating longevity with quality of life. The goal of medicine is quality of life, not necessarily longevity.
