yet nothing is ever done to remove the dangerous mindsets of those twisting faiths to suit their own goals, such as the zionist church of christ of latterday saints.

That's false and offensive. Practicing polygamists can't operate publicly.

The leaders of the faith you proclaim to follow.

What is it that makes them into non Mormons? Before I make any other statement on it, I guess I need to understand this part.
Excommunication means the church no longer officially recognizes you as a member of the church. You can call yourself whatever you want, but the group no longer recognizes you as a member.

So you're not part of that religion because it's not official?

also iirc, they ones that excommunicate members are the people of power in the church that threaten the polygamist colony,

However, to say mormons do not practice polygamy today is flawed with one name Warren Jeffs who is a member of the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints that separated itself from mainstream Mormonism in 1890 after polygamy was banned, but is still mormonism.

The Zionist church did until their founding member was arrested for impregnating underage girls.

I think it's a matter of semantics that got us here. I admit my guilt.

Who gives a *** if they say it. Why does that make it true? What man on this earth has the right to take someone's religion from them. That doesn't even make sense. If I feel I'm still a Christian (totally not), some douche that thinks he's better isn't taking, and cannot(imo) take that from me.

edit- Yes we're here because I'm like half blind and even more partially HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE than normal atm. Mah bad.

It wouldn't matter.

The LDS changes its stance, or has to clarify its stance, on issues about as quickly/often as Mitt Romney does.

EX: Coca-Cola

http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/on-faith/its-official-coke-and-pepsi-are-ok-for-mormons/2012/08/31/e7bd504c-f39b-11e1-b74c-84ed55e0300b_story.html

Gee Whiz! Our own believers are unclear as to what they can and cannot do!

Somebody made a joke about Mormons being polygamists. Then the point was made that some people who practice "Mormonism" practiced polygamy. I was pointing out the distinction between Mormonism being polygamist, and some "Mormons" practicing polygamy. If you endorse the former, you pretty much are endorsing the right to stereotype based on subsets of a group.

Official Mormonism no longer endorses or allows, in doctrine or practice, polygamy. Some "Mormons" may still practice polygamy, but you can't demonize the whole group for that fact.

I don't see relevance in this issue whatsoever.

There are a ton of people on death row who consider themselves Christian, and despite what you may feel about their actions or behavior, that doesn't change the matter.

Likewise... so what? Romney's a Mormon, he's also white. I guess he was being hypocritical when he was talking about bringing freedom to oppressive dictatorships because white people owned slaves less than 200 years ago. /eyes

Because it has broader implications than the semantics of how people define themselves. It also has implications about how outsiders define you, hence stereotypes.

I misconstrued something and derail raped the thread. And now I'm all

And I really apologize if the way I worded something came off as stereotypical, it really was not meant that way.

It was a few comments from a few people falling into that fallacy, I wasn't trying to pick out anyone in particular. Just pointing out the difference.

Lol, yeah, there seemed to be a lot of tangents coming from both sides. It ended up being a "whatever" debate instead of a foreign policy one.

He made the weak claim that we'd be buying cars from China if the auto-industry collapsed, which was the weak connection to foreign policy. It may have gone a little further to hypothetically supporting trade deficit, but at that point the argument got so hazy I couldn't even follow it.

I keep hearing them say Romney was trying to appeal to women voters tonight. What exactly did he do to appeal to women voters?

Because Chinese cars wouldn't fall apart like all of their knock-off electronics ^_^

He could always have said something about japanese cars, but we buy the *** out of those even when our industry isn't "failing". I hear it has something to do with quality and their ability to last a long time.

I drive a 92 Accord, drove the last engine for 6 months with a crack right down the head, it was made in the USA.

Popped a new engine in it and I expect to get another 200k out of it, easily. (despite objections from friends/family).

Japan revolutionized the quality control industry, especially when it came to making cars. I think the U.S. is starting to catch up, though.

Exactly. Funny how Japan would listen to one of our geniuses and we wouldn't. Hindsight's 20/20, I guess.

Romney: No more of the last 4 years.

Obama: No more of the last 8 years before mine.

Johnson: No more of the last 12 years.
