Monk Evasion FTL? Or Something I'm Missing?

Alright, so I'm 31 monk subbing ninja cause it's fun for solo.

My evasion is capped at 94, with gear I have +26 evasion and with gear and squid sushi I have +12 agi

Now, that said, I go to fight decent challenge crabs in qufim and alas I'm being hit almost every single time >.>

Is it me, did I miss something about evasion and how it means enemies miss me? lol halp!

Yea signet's on, and i've been using dodge each chance i get

Signet really give that big a eva bonus?

your fighting DC mobs which have higher skill levels than you. stack all the evasion you want, but if your fighting anything over EM, and in some cases them too, your stats are inferior. in this case, mobs ACC > your EVA.

It helps a lot. Try getting signet and then removing some eva gear so you aren't stacking too much.

MNK75... and I think my evasion is roflcoptor. e.e;

MNK had the third highest EVA of any job before DNC came out. :/ EVA in FFXI isn't really as good as anyone would want it to be. If you are fighting EM or lower in areas where you can use it, Signet and Sigil are absolutely great for your EVA. If you can afford it and are lazy, I would suggest buying a Signet Staff of your nation.

Well, first and foremost your MNK your not there to evade. Your job is to punch hard and fast. Leave evading to Thiefs and Ninjas. If your fighting DC mobs use meat and kill them before they kill you.

not sure what your THF is at levelwise, but i would /THF instead of /NIN (DNC would be ideal though)

before you argue "/NIN has shadows, its awesome", just try /THF, or ideally /DNC

but like Tubal said, MNK is about asskicking

EDIT: i yeah, dont forget DODGE (ability) and GUARD. the more you evade, the less chance your guard will proc (i assume that eva is first? this might not be true though). you dont want to have to skill up guard if you can help it...skill it up while you level/solo

why.. exactly are you stacking EVA+ gear at those levels?

Stack ATT, ACC, VIT, whatever else and take those hits like a man.

As a MNK75, my EVA sucks, so I focus more on ACC, ATT, STR, and some Haste.

So, forget EVA please.

Alright, low lvl, go /DNC and stack ACC and ATK. At 75, I have a solid evasion build and solo things people think are impossible for a MNK to solo. Of course, my evasion build has so much +eva to it at that lvl, that its a little scary. I still need to get a few more pieces too.

MNK is one of the most talented solo/tank/low-man/whatever-style jobs in the game, due to
1)Higher than average EVA (B+, higher than almost every other job)
2)A- Guard (Works basically like a shield, more or less)
3)Counterstance which is base 50% proc rate, up to somewhere near 80% with gear and merits
4)Highest HP in the game, for on the off chance you do get hit
5)Highest VIT in the game

Combine all of them with NIN sub and Utsusemi, and you only get hit roughly 1% of the time an average DRK would, for instance.

A MNK that doesn't have specific gear for tanking etc, is like a BLM that doesn't know how to do anything but nuke.

THF was my first job to 75 and evasion is capped as well as meritted and so it is capped on MNK as well.

That being said, with a few pieces from my THFs evasion build I can evade a good amount of hits without Dodge (in Campaign at least) and with Dodge (macro'd with AF boots) the mobs miss a ton, and if they don't it's usually countered. XD
