Anyone have a basic GS? I'm trying to get back into DRK

I would love one myself. I have an outdated one but it throws off my gear so much when i was trying to use it

Macbain is still pretty good with good augments. Or the Humility from SR, if you have access to that.

Then you just suck at the job. I'm 2100 Drk with mythic and argosy +1 and I can say it's a massive DD and once REM is upgraded it's only gonna be better. The scythe swings like a kraken club with last resort and AM3. the damage boost and weapon skill % increase will send Liberator through the roof.

I agree with Mcdonalds, DRK doesnt need a boost because its powerfull if you know how to play it.

I doubt they boost Relic/mythic weaponskills furthermore though

Lol ok whatever you two are smoking, talking like I don't know how to play the job. I hate to burst your bubble but you do realize other jobs can use a mythic too?, a job should not rely on mythic to make a statement.

I don't have a Mythic. I use an AH Greatsword : Malfeasance.
I only rely on Dark knight ja/magic buffs, and some gear of course.

He is trolling you guys, trying to rile you up.

DRK is good at making SC's due to it having many different multi-hit options. It's important that the WS selection be multi-hit because it avoids fudo-syndrome.

For pure damage, DRK is suffering pretty badly. One is that 2H WS's have their FTP too low compared to all the 1H WS's, and unlike WAR, DRK can't just do a Fencer build to exploit high fTP scaling. The second area that is hurting DRK is accuracy, DRK really got shafted in the acc department, even more then the other 2H jobs. The recent release of valourus gear and the updates to Emicho / Argosy helped this somewhat, but in return it severely limits the gear you can use on WS's since you need to maintain that high accuracy.

Outside of those two problems, DRK suffers from the same problems that other non-BLU/DNC jobs suffer from, needing additional support to optimize their damage. BLU's and DNC's can each apply additional haste to themselves and / or others and thus require one less support then DRK/WAR/DRG/SAM/MNK/THF. Today we need to stuff as much as possible in a six member party due to the obscene HP scaling system SE created. Bringing more people only makes things harder, and thus we are now looking to pack as much into each individual slot as possible.

Should SE fix some of these issues, lesson the obscene accuracy requirements and raise the fTP of 2H WS's, then we could see different melee jobs used more often. And this is without even going into the blatant abuse of broken BSTs and SCH SC's.

I don't know if much changed but I was under the assumption that a perfectly geared lib drk would get out parsed by a semi decent Sam with delve katana...

A perfectly geared Koga sam will get outparsed by a semi decent BLU with 100 jp and a nibiru blade. Really playing a DD other than BLU THF DNC BST is a waste of time right now. Sure you can probably beat most/all events with a DRK or WAR or DRG or SAM setup but it's not reliable/farm status.

That's the true problem. Job balancing in a age where you gave mobs moves that cripple melee actions, wipe buffs, etc you gotta find the effecient way to get things done. Even with a buff melee would still suffer due to how op mbing is now...

It's all pretty irrelevant. Sure BLU is miles ahead of every other DD, but PLD (or RUN), WHM, GEO, SCH, SMN, and BLM are really what's used to down the hardest mobs in the game. BLU is great at destroying fodder (T1-2 and some 3 Escha/Reisenjima).

To make DRK and other traditional DD jobs more than fun little playthings you use because you play 2015 FFXI for the nostalgia factor, you'd need a serious overhaul of Accuracy, sources of Haste, and fTP values.

Blu don't outparse my drk dmg IF im magic hasted (or rarely like Sesono's blu).
Dark knight has some great potential.
I don't play other DD jobs right now, so i could be wrong but i don't think they all beat 30-50k resolution spam on Naja Raja.

Personal parses don't change the fact that mathmatically 2 handers are incapable of the potential that 1 handers have.

I really wish I was wrong because I hate the current meta, being a career and Rag WAR, but that's just the way the game is right now.

Isn't haste samba just 10%? Or did SE change something? I don't play DNC so I'm not sure, but wouldn't DNC still needs additional haste support?

BLU is too good, the ability to reach magic haste cap without haste bubbles make it 1 tier above other DD because you get 1 free DD bubble. The ability put up defensive buffs makes it hard to kill as well, same reason why MNK was "the melee DD" in 2013. The DD that's the hardest to kill and still do good dmg = the best DD for most groups. After all dead DD= no damage and not every group has access to pro WHM. BLU's best WS also lv3 SC with itself, not every DD job can do that, at least not insurgency.

It's pretty much "the of melee job of FFXI" atm like MNK in 2013 and SAM in 2014.

I don't mind playing with other DD jobs, but unless you're going with close friends BLU is really the easiest melee job to bring.

DNC can cap delay reduction with just gear, Haste II, Haste Samba, and... 8% additional DW, if I'm not mistaken. Should be 35% base DW with the 550JP gift. Capped gear and magic haste + Haste Samba puts them way over cap even with no additional DW.

And NIN can cap delay with gear alone. Why is this even worth mentioning? Are people really too lazy to drop a haste on somebody?

Capping delay reduction without a certain haste buff means you can swap out a different buff, and for buffs like MG and Haste Samba there's basically no drawback to doing so. That should be obvious, has nothing to do with laziness.

In a melee zerg setup with multiple melee in pt, it's more beneficial to use a WHM as a healer over RDM though, unless you have a mule to haste2 you don't get haste2 in most of the melee setup. (Or unless your RDM is god tier healer) In the end you need a lot more than 8% DW in gears to cap delay with WHM in pt.

Overall BLU is still superior DD option if you're not using haste bubble IMO....not to mention free defensive buffs without having to use defensive SJ.

Isn't this thread supposed to be about Dark Knight? Who cares which jobs are doing well with other jobs. Those who love Dark Knight come here for information on the job, not to be told they can't play it (or be told DRK sucks compared to BLU DNC or THF) because it doesn't fit in to the current content.

I don't see how drk can keep up on damage on any job if they don't have lib. AM3 with last resort with haste is kraken club swinging two handed weapon. I don't play with rag anymore because it seems so slow, but I'm looking forward to the updates to play with relics again :D

Sad part is magic accuracy is crap. And most endgame things are immune to absorb spells :( only downfall to lib. Congratulations! !

That's a good start, couple things to note:
Argosy set leaves you open to being absolutely ***on by any AoE tp move or spell stronger than diaga. The offense stats are fabulous but that doesn't really matter if you're eating dirt.

I'm dedicating like 20% focus to redoing my Liberator sets since I stopped playing last Feb or so. I geared SCH first so I can solo/duo a lot of the gear I need (plus endless reisenjima stones). Now it's DRK's turn.

Couple things to note: since we're using gearswap and its only equipped for a split second, Enif legs are 8%FC over eschite's 5. Also, that GS has a lot of duplicate r/ex pieces (dignitary's earring and the regen earring stood out, there may be more).

I have to toy around in apreadsheet for now but it seems that 4 hit liberator is king over 5hit with a ton of multiattack by a fair margin. When I'm not on my phone I can run some numbers for exact stp values but overkilling STP isn't giving great results. Seems just shoot for bare minimum 1000 TP in as few rounds and then stack on multiattack.

Now, just pray to RNGesus for good valorous/odyssean augs.

Edit: oh, and DRK can't wear fucho-no-obi. Have to use Austerity +1.
