Edit: I assume she would want to brag to all her friends, but a lot of her friends aren't gamers. So it'd be an awkward story to tell I guess. I dunno.

If you think that's something she'll appreciate then do it.
You're not going to marry her for he friends approval :P

Okay, good. Give it some time after you officially live together before you propose. Ample time.

Well I have to buy/pay for the ring first, and I have to ask her dad for permission and all that. Then I have to get second opinions from friends and family.
First opinion: Yeah man sounds good.

Second opinion: GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN! IT'S A TRAP! FLEE, RUN FOR YOU LIFE!

Hope that helps.

I always wondered if I'll ask the father for permission.

If he says no, I'm still going to ask her. Just like my dad did /shrug

You think a lot of things are antiquated... besides it's not like asking the dad means the owns her lol... it's like Row said it's a respect thing and about showing your intentions. For some family is a big part of their lives and they want them involved.

Sometimes, antiquated practices should not be continued based on our own moral system.

I cannot in any way support any notion that treats another human being as property, personally; particularly one I may want to spend the rest of my life with.

Maybe I'll do the whole "propose at a baseball game" thing. She loves baseball games. That's cliche.
Cliche or not, I always thought this would be a fun way to go about it!

Hey if you don't want to... don't. Not saying anyone should do what they don't want to... In this case it seems that he thinks its the best route to take...

It's not about ownership... It's about paying your respects to the family of the woman you love... is it the only way? no. is it necassary? depends on the person you're proposing to I guess.

I've known people girls who've required their soon to be husbands to go get permission from their fathers... I've also known some that don't like their family and don't care lol... either way each individual should approach it how they deem is best.

You guys are being silly though... You're acting as if Row is bartering for this girls hand and that he would not do it if the dad said no... /sigh

It's not like the old days where you actually go in and ask for their daughter's hand in marriage. Today, more so, it is down out of respect, like was mentioned before. You sit him down and let him know his intentions.

And while a father does not own a daughter, it is still his baby girl and he would like to know she is in the right hands.

because a lot of things are antiquated.

It's a symbolic representation of that the father owns the daughter and he is courting her, which is the way things USED to be done.

I find it disgusting, because it's past is disgusting.

Tradition or not it's still messed up.

I'm just chiming in. I think it's interesting when we talk about how we really feel and why we feel that way.

A little friendly arguing never hurt.

Weekend plans, Ni?
Saturday - little man's purple belt test
Sunday - hopefully cook out on my new back deck for Mother's Day. I'm fairly positive I will get flower and heart shaped pancakes in bed from the boys. At least it will be in bed if they happen to wake up before me.

Do you honestly think Row thinks of his g/f as property though? Do you really think that he in any way thinks he needs to what pass ownership from her father to him?
