I've been mulling this over for a bit. This conversation plus my dad's interactions with the in-laws over Christmas brought it around again.

I wonder if early Boomers look at mid and late Boomers the way early Gen-Y (nuts to "Millennial"!) looks at mid and late Gen-Y.

I remember when I went to catholic school in the seventh grade ONE kid's parents got divorced and it was a huge scandal...

Now my son is the odd one. His parents are the only couple in central ohio that are still married to each other and live in the same house...

his one friend got kicked out of his mom's house to make room for her new boyfriend's kids and he can't live with his dad because his girlfriend doesn't like him...and the house is full of her kids.

I just refuse to identify as a "Gen Y" or "millennial" and maintain that I'm tail end of X or nothing at all. *** your labels.

I'm not part of your system! I THREW YOUR GENERATIONAL LABELS ON THE GROUND.

Quote:
In a 2012 article for the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University, George Masnick wrote that the "Census counted 82.1 million" Gen Xers in the U.S. The Harvard Center uses 1965 to 1984 to define Gen X so that Boomers, Xers and Millennials "cover equal 20-year age spans".[15] Masnick concluded that immigration filled in any birth year deficits during low fertility years of the late 1960s and early 1970s [15][16]

Quote:
John Markert at Cumberland University employs a similar approach, but wrote a 2004 article in which "Generations should be discreet twenty-year periods" but with "ten-year cohorts" and 5-year bihorts non-simultaneously, classifies Generation X as those born in the years 1966 to 1985.[18][19] Markert censures other methods and tactics to define Generation X in his article stating that "inconsistent use of dates by the same author" simply results "in an apple to lemon measurement standard".[18]

Self-soothing as it may be, I like the guidelines above.

Zah has clearly proved you wrong in this instance.

Now I just need validation that the Dave Matthews Band rocks and I can be assured that how I feel when I'm drunk is accurate!

Mostly the music and slightly more enlightened form of narcissism.

It's weird that I would be saying it on here of all places, but it's not like it hasn't been said over a game of cards or throwing darts in a smokey garage with a keg tapped.

Tactile, face-to-face play and being able to ride a bike anywhere as a kid without anyone batting a lash.

Every one of our mothers was a "free-range" mother that would be jailed now.

Apparently.

Ha! Too true.

The first time I saw a condom (I think I was eight/nine), it was in the wooded area behind our subdivision that had a creek and a horse pasture on the opposite side.

A group of us would go back there (boys and girls) and we would build half-assed tree forts with the fence that was meant to be a barrier between the neighborhood and that wooded area, build dams and fish. Well, little did we know teenagers also went back there to do their business, so we stumble on a used condom on one of the paths (not the weirdest thing I saw back there).

"What's that?"

One of the boys who was two years older than me and my gal-pal point-blankly, "That's a condom. Don't touch it."

"Yeah, but what is it?"

"It's for sex."

Mental flood. Didn't say it aloud but I thought, "Oh yeah. When you strip two Barbies, slap them together and stuff Barbie clothes up Barbie's dress." -- Kid logic.

I was aware of sex at a fairly early age, but I didn't really put the pieces together until about 14 or so. I didn't ever have one of those moments where I thought I figured it out but was totally wrong. Finding a used condom at 8 would have opened up a whole host of strange ideas, lol.

I always liked girls. Never really went through a "girls are icky" phase. I remember poking through my uncle's old Playboys in like first grade and liking what I was seeing, even if I wasn't clear on specifics.

Took a bit longer to sort those out.

In hindsight, it was a little weird that I was blase about it. Then again, I was warned not to touch it, shrugged and went on about our business. (Bigger fish to fry!) I didn't put it together until eighth grade Bio. So, around the same age.

It wasn't until months later when I accidentally called condominiums "condoms" while in the car that I found out it was a bad thing. My dad came to a stoplight, looked at my mom, then looked at my brother (as if he knew what was going on, he was two years older than me). My dad's bricks were effectively shat that day. LOL!

If you remember this being just labeled as normal when growing up... welcome to being old! (I guess)

At first I thought the free range label was a joke.

It's exactly what it sounds like. Your dirt clod war in a pond with a very high probability of cow ***mixed in with the mud.

Lovely!

EDIT: Not that we thought about the likelihood of cow/horse feces in there at the time.

I, in fact, was a "woods kid."

I really miss having woods nearby in which I can roam, actually.

The current house offer is teetering on 50/50 or so right now due to some niggles between the bank and the seller that are completely out of my hands.

If it falls through I've got a few on the list to look at that are a bit more rural. Which means not being 10 minutes from work (bummer) but would allow for a lot more woodsy freedom and lower local taxes, so...

I'm trying to stay positive about maybe not getting the house because (reasons).

I knew from the very start of the process to not fall in love with anything because walking away may always be a necessary option.

Still grating my teeth waiting on these people.

I'm presently wearing the biggest, clunkiest headset known to man because it's the crappy cheap one provided to us for training videos.

I forgot my Bluetooth headset in my gym bag last night and getting through a morning without music is just not a thing that's going to happen.

How I feel right now.

Morning all, I hope it finds you alert.

so long 2015. It was a dull year with too much work and not near enough tom-foolery. anyone have anything they needed done in 2015? if you do, you better get your *** moving, because the clock's ticking. All the bills are paid, and I'm sure there's a fire in the hearth at home, crackling, waiting my arrival. So even if there's no reason to be optimistic about 2016 what-so-ever, I'm going to be anyway.

Any big plans for 2016 folks? HUH?!?!?

not me. just going to keep cashin' checks and snappin' necks.
