I picked up the IX remake for 16-17$ this weekend. I haven't started it up yet but it looks like they didn't redo the backgrounds...i mention this because X.

background renderings lost during merger with enix etc etc...

Picked it up the day it released and finally got to start playing it last night.

They didn't get the backgrounds, but it still looks fantastic overall. The backgrounds are a little splotchy in places but the character sprites are amazing. Like, really, really good.

And the cutscenes are wonderful. And the interface upgrades are crisp and clean.

And the music is as wonderful as ever.

Ayeeeeee. I was like a little kid last night. I took 74 screenshots and I only got up to recruiting Steiner and Vivi to go rescue Garnet.

...

Have I ever mentioned that IX is far and away my favorite FF title?

Did Mosin ever beat the Dark Aeons by now?

nope! I maxed luck, then chimi conned me into starting a new minecraft map, and I haven't touched it since. fooling around on the division atm.

9 is pretty dope. I'd have to pick 6 as #1 though (assuming that's the one with terra as the main character, I played it as 3 for the snes).

What's also fun about IX being on PC is I'm playing my favorite FF with a Nintendo GameCube controller, my favorite controller of all time, which I picked up a USB version of from ThinkGeek a while back.

Seriously. I'm eager to go home and keep playing a sixteen-year-old game.

Edit: Huh. I'm super lucky, I guess. I went looking for a picture of my GC controller (Retrolink USB GC controller) and discovered there's apparently a ton of problems with it for actual GameCube emulation. Ah well. It works super-swell for playing oldschool FF games.

Well, since you're on break from playing a thirteen year old one, makes sense you've got some time to fill

Right?

Also eagerly awaiting this weekend when the wife and I can finish poly'ing the shelves she stained this past weekend and we can get them up on the walls so we can keep putting stuff away. More boxes out of the dining area so I can build a table and eat at not-my-computer-desk for the first time in ages.

I was thinking, why would anyone need a reference for that picture? Then, I remembered an instance on here long ago where someone mentioned not knowing who Dolly the sheep was. When asked, s/he said that s/he was born in 1996.

How old does that make you feel, Ramy? Wet blanket for wet blanket.

Its just a reminder how events that shape and have influence on a generation do not pass down into the collective social conscious of future generations. Example: Kent State Massacre.

It's sad that I know all of these. The tower shooter!

Also, growing up in Ohio in the 70s/80s, Kent State was still very much A Thing You Knew About™.

You're Zero is right overall though, those things fade (and it seems they fade faster and faster, as more of them happen).

Tin soldiers and Nixon's coming.

Yeah...maybe it's because of the Pennsylvania proximity, but any time anyone tells me they go/went to Kent State I'm all (as you can see from above)...

"Thanks, ***. Now I have Crosby, Stills, and Nash in my head."

I'd hope anyone who didn't know about this would have looked it up after the Season 1 episode of Archer with Conway and his "Charles Whitman Sampler."

So this is today thus far:

The accountants sent the payroll to our bank. The bank released the funds to our accounts for direct deposit... but nobody has the money and the bank doesn't know where it is.

Yup.

Yeah. I somehow feel like 9/11 won't be as readily forgotten because "reasons," but I'll let that go.

Just sort of grating 9/11 gets a holiday and OKC barely gets a nod on national news sites most of the time.

For some of us some images are burned into the brain, I guess.

Ah, it's b/c it's the 21st anniversary of OKC. I posted it in P&R.

I remember the Beltway Sniper. That was a weird one.

I didn't know a thing about the McDonald's shooting.

I was 2 when it happened.

How did I never hear a thing about this?

I just read the Wiki.

It's...harrowing to read. Really, really awful. Just...everything about it. With so many questions and red flags that were -- and to this day are -- ignored.

Oi.

Ahhh home soo much feels. Weird right.

Time: The 90's
Location: California.

The wild west of breaking news reports. We had it all; Rodney King, OJ's Bronco, Tank Rampages, North Hollywood Shootout. They all magically occurred right in the middle of afternoon children's television programming. You're sitting there watching Tailspin or Darkwing Duck and then suddenly "We interrupt this program for a breaking news report". Everything was going great until that one day when a guy ended a slow speed police chase by splattering his brains all over the interior of his pick up. Thanks to aggressive news helicopter cameramen little Billy and Susie got front row seats to the show.

I'm sure college students' proclivity for the enjoyment of various substances doesn't fuel that one.

Where? I know at the OKC memorial's reflecting pool, there are these chairs with names on them and many people report that their young kids play hide and seek with kids that aren't there.
