Sounds like the air actuator in the dash if it was clicking. I had to have to an a/c compressor replaced, which hurts the pocket. Unless you know a guy and buy the parts.
Edit: If its the actuator the good news is the part runs 75-125$, and with labor, the total cost shouldn't be that bad.
