new Nakuaal
Quote:
Kumhau, The Flash Frost Nakuaal, (Cehuetzi Family)

Nakuaals, the most fearsome of beasts that reside in the jungles, are present in all corners of the Ulbukan continent--and the Kamihr Drifts are no exception.

Its fangs glint in the light as if they were of pure platinum, its flesh like a plate of armor forged of the hardest steel. Yet with only scattered sightings having been reported, none are sure which of the stories are true and which are overblown hyperbole.

Its breath is said to call forth blizzards from still winds, sending out icicles like lances made of diamonds, piercing the earth and littering it with myriad shards of glass.

If you hear its roars, then it's already too late. It stalks its pray in the cold of night, allowing for no rest or hope of escape

Something more appropriate would have been something like Umagrhk (Meeble Burrows' Mega Boss)

The lion Naakul looks like a lion.
Khim, which is part-lion, looks like a lion.

How incredibly lazy on SE's part, right? Not enough spikes and stripes and glowy parts? People will complain about anything these days.

While it does resemble a Khimaira simply based on the fact they both have lion-like characteristics, it more closely resembles tigers in the general structure of its body.

Honestly though, at least they're putting out content. Complain if you want to complain but I'm happy enough having new stuff to do once in a while rather than nit-picking at what is or isn't reused etc.

WKR is yawn and participations will die out fast once the majority got KIs and whatever gear(s) they fancy.

I still think what they desperately need to put out is some new delves... figuring out strategies for each nm and T1-6 runs are what will keep people busy.

They're right to complain. This is the first content since August. The "content" in August was re-skins of pre-existing gear.

The update a month before that? 2 new Naakuls that took them since April to come up with.

April? Dropping the same NMs from Delve into "fracture".... a replica of cidras caverns or whatever.

It's understandable though because they had this MASSIVE expansion earlier. Wait... 2 fights, and 8 cutscenes at release. 2 new jobs and lots of "fetch quests in old content areas". "***we didn't write enough in the two years we had to release this expansion..... instill forced stops like 90 coalition assaults before progression, and having to chop down walls first".

If i handed in homework that was done before the bell rang in elementary school, the teacher knew. If i had a 3 month deadline for a paper, and did some "hasty plagiarism" or "re-wrote old papers" they knew. However you can dismiss valid concerns of a playerbase with "people *** about anything these days" instead of holding a company culpable for its mistakes. Do you own an iphone 4/5? If it was the same as iphone 1, would you say "OMG YOU GAIZ LIKE TOTES *** A BUNCHES". No... you'd go buy a galaxy 4 (or whatever).

I genuinely want SE to be forced to fix XI. If they stepped up their game, people might consider coming back (a reach, i know). The problem is people going "YOU DONT KNOW SOA KILLED XI... SUBS WENT UP MAAAAN" > 1 month > "YOU DONT KNOW FFXI IS DYING. XIV JUST CAME OUT AGAIN AND THE PEOPLE WILL COME BACK WHEN THEY SEE THAT SUCKS" > fast forward > "SURE THERES ONLY 600 PEOPLE ON DURING PRIME TIME BUT THATS JUST BECAUSE THE FAIRWEATHER NEWBS QUIT" > shitty naakual update with "probably" bst respecs again, 1 reskin armor set with 21 to all stats instead of 20. > "YOU GUYS *** ABOUT ANYTHING AND AREN'T SATISFIED PAYING STEAK PRICE FOR A CUP OF RICE".

you're an enabler.

i actually came to this thread right away in the middle of a hard quote because i was THAT excited to read up on the new nakaaul pics i saw. There's only so many times i can come running to be soul-shatteringly disappointed.

You done? Must've been a hell of a nerve I hit. All I said was that I think it's incredibly petty for people to be complaining about the fact that two mobs based off of lions do, shockingly, resemble each other. Relax.

Major fixes this update: They're adding incentives back to pretty much all old content this update in the form of "making RMEs not-useless."

They're adding content: AF+2, Hard-mode battlefields, RME updates, new zones, new missions, new quests, new WKR, more coalition assignments, PvM, SP2s, NM/HNM subspecies, Empyrean WS system, etc.

If they do this right and rapidly fix whatever problems there are in the content at release, it could be enough fun content to last us until the next real update. What are the odds that they will do it right? Welllllll....... my real predictions are:
1) They're going to make RMEs too strong.
2) The alternative coin weapon path will have a bottleneck.
3) PvM will be terribly unbalanced in favor of the players and also will have shitty rewards. Thus, it will be an unfun system that no one does.
4) The new missions/quests will take me less than two nights to complete and will involve making one party or less.
5) AF+2 will mostly still be useless, which is fine, but SE will also fail to improve the pieces in the ways they're primarily used (as macro pieces for JA enhancements). Instead, they will throw random stats on it and end up with another mid-tier set that's inferior to Skirmish v2 gear and is still only macroed for JAs. Thus, the only pieces really worth upgrading will be pieces that benefit from stat vomit, like THF/RNG AF1+1 hands, DNC body, etc.
6) I will do the WKR four times and then throw my controller across the room as I fail to get the iLevel 116 light-armor TP feet for the fourth time.
7) Hard-mode battlefields will be designed for people wearing iLevel 109 gear using iLevel 113 weapons. Thus, they will be very easy for many/all players and people will three-man them within a week of release.

This is what I suspect will happen, but I want to believe that SE can finally come through in the clutch.

Eh you can see that they used the khimera model as a base to make this, it's not like they look similar by coincidence. This in itself isn't a big deal, but like ashman was getting it, it's telling how much they're reusing resources. I'd guess they don't have any dedicated graphic people working on FFXI right now, they've probably been moved to other projects and only work on FFXI stuff for very limited amounts of time.

And as for lions looking like lions, wasn't this thing originally supposed to be a bear?

Yes, it was supposed to be a polar bear - atleast according to this picture.

EDIT: You know what - I'm not sure. When I zoom in I do see a mane so who knows.

Nah, you can see its mane. Also, its body is noticeably slimmer and more... bowed? Less muscley than Khim's, who looks like a 'roid addict.

I wouldn't see a huge problem with this as long as they make the upgrades stupidly difficult to obtain/complete.

2) The alternative coin weapon path will have a bottleneck.

I'm afraid of this.

Quote:
3) PvM will be terribly unbalanced in favor of the players and also will have shitty rewards. Thus, it will be an unfun system that no one does.

I'm afraid of this as well, but I see it favoring the mobs. Also, lots of strafing/circling and range manipulation with movement speed+ mobs.

Quote:
4) The new missions/quests will take me less than two nights to complete and will involve making one party or less.

Most likely. The days of Three Paths are over.

100% agree. I don't understand the logic behind making AF+2/AF4 level 109 when we have level 119 gear.

Quote:
6) I will do the WKR four times and then throw my controller across the room as I fail to get the iLevel 116 light-armor TP feet for the fourth time.

Preach.

They could add a V. stone/G. stone system to give players incentive to keep repeating the fights. Maybe.

This update has a ton of potential, but only if all the details are worked out beforehand. We'll see, but my money is on lots of bugs and inconsistencies.

I didn't say it's palette swap lol, I said they started with the khimera model rather than starting from scratch. If you can't see that by comparing the two idk what to tell you.

It looks more like big puffy chest than a mane to me, but going by that other artwork I guess it was always supposed to be a lion like creature (unless that art is more recent?). It's weird thou, the in-game naakuals look as close as can be to the amano artwork, where as this one doesn't.

Pretty much spot on with the rest. But WKRs are getting redesigned to be content lvl 116 across the board, with new drops added to old ones, including non-Ex drops that can be sold, such as accessories. Plus they're making the col. rate affect them in a stronger way (example they gave was 40% after update will be close to what 80% is now). Whether those changes will be enough to make the content more common, and want to participate in it, who's to say. They said they wanted it to be more of a casual type of event, rather than the silly grind that it is now (absent an army of Smns and Cors).

It's got my hopes up a bit at least. Plus all the other content coming, surely at least SOME of it they won't completely screw up....right? ;P

I don't know why people insist on the bear thing. It's just jumping in the artwork, not standing on back legs. Just like Achuka is doing an innocent backflip!

Side note, anyone notice SE did a slop job of just cut and paste on name/family before you click it's pic on main page?

Daw...they fixed it.
