The only reason I have it is because some of my friends choose to only talk to me on it. I know not a good excuse but I do sorta care about some of them.

A viable candidate is a bit of an oxymoron, but as far as competition, he's one of the few Republican names right now that has clout on both sides of the aisle. He's got a reputation of not taking crap from anyone and speaking his mind regardless of the backlash. His policies are fairly moderate, even liberal on the social front.

I'd say he's got a shot at making some kind of stab at the nomination at least, though I don't see him being radical enough to get the support of the far right or moderate enough to appeal to leftist and independent voters.

I don't see this scandal having a major impact on his chances in 2016, as they weren't that great to start with, and it's a mostly media-tastic scandal, anyway.

Not seeing how he's liberal on the social front outside gun control? He hasn't shown any theocratic tenancies but he's in a blue state coming off a disastrous Democratic gov and Sandy so you'd expect as much.

He's been pro-life after flipping and no Republican candidate will get anywhere near the primary ticket without beating that drum. On gay marriage he tows the Catholic line, tax cuts, charter schools and all the pretty generic checkbox answers you'd get from a generic Republican candidate. I'm failing to see what elevates Christie to being capable of running the nation. He's loud and obnoxious? Doesn't take ***from anyone? Large and incharge? Great, a hothead running diplomatic affairs. Is he gonna tell Karzai to go *** himself? I could get behind that.

Christie has certainly done his piece pulling his state out of the muck Corzine and his cronies puked up and he's certainly more articulate than some of the crazies but I'm seeing alot of hype behind a candidate who we haven't speak on anything outside domestic level issues. I for one think he's going to get Giuliani'd come election season.

But that's just me. President Christie? We'll see.

Maybe this time the real Mitt Romney will show up and not one of his Utsusemi clones.

Gun control is a pretty big deal when you're talking about a Republican. He is pro-life and anti-gay marriage, but he seems to be mostly reactionary and not active in either category. I'd be curious to see whether he'd move toward the center on those issues if polling showed that most Americans were pro-choice and pro-equality.

It's the old "rock and a hard place" trying to appeal to the middle while still having the rightist support needed to have a shot at being on the ballot.

To be clear, I don't see him as anything more than the loudmouth of the day, his political longevity is probably tenuous at best, but he has a lot of supporters in a lot of places across the political spectrum.

And still Mitt Romney was the best candidate in 2012 that got anywhere.

As long as we don't more Pokemon Trainers (Herman Cain), vaccers (Michelle Bachmann), imams (Rick Santorum) or Bush clones (Rick Perry) running for President, it'll be interesting.

Wait, you voted for Romney..?

Yea. (waits for the wrath) I don't agree with liberal policies. Nothing personal. I'm open to your ideas not going to bash opposing views.

It all makes sense now.

Trust me it isn't easy when most of your friends are liberal. I don't take politics personally. If you don't like me because of who I voted for well... probably wasn't going to go well anyways.

For me the big problem is social issues. Abortion etc. That is where things get heated. I can talk economics illegal immigration etc. But when people start some issues it gets a bit heated.

See how many people pro life would laugh at that. This guy. I would make that a signature of mine if we could do that.

And yes I'm aware that I contradict myself on abortion.

And yes not all pro life people are Bible thumping crazies.

I just said I don't take issues like that serious. So not sure what your point is. Funny is funny.

The only reason I could be against abortion is if I believe in free will. As said earlier I'm still debating that. Not going to go into a long Philosophical debate seeing as we are already off topic anyways.

I hope Christie doesn't run though. Didn't like him first time around.

Yea I tend to go off topic a lot. Should work on that. I spend too much time in RT. Just a matter of time till thread goes off rails. (not making excuses though)

And the election would force him to pick sides, not the current fence sitting he can afford as a governor. I can already see the RINO accusations the moment he tries to pull that Giuliani-style blue state governor schtick during the primaries. This ideological purity thing is poison outside conjuring up retards and extremists.

Unless the landscape changes between now and the run up to the race, he's going to be ideologically hogtied the same way Romney was back in 2012 by his party. This bridge scandal won't even be remembered.

I'll be a lot more excited when midterms are over. And can get back to the "real" election. Right now I'm just kinda meh about politics in general. I might do the unthinkable and not vote mid terms not sure yet.

None of it really adds up to me. Why two months before an election that he was winning handily would his campaign/office be concerned with not getting the endorsement of one Democratic mayor when they already had several and why would they go to such an extreme measure to retaliate. It doesn't really make sense.

You do not understand New Jersy. It doesn't have to make sense, its just how things are done there. There is a reason why "The Sopranos" was set in NJ rather than some other mafia infested state.

Quote:
But the other side of it, it makes no sense to me that his highest of aides would be involved in something so stupid and illegal that would risk everything over something so small; and have Governor Christie not know about it. He would have to know since they were risking his ***.

Well, that's the big question in this scandal.

Quote:
All that being said, I cannot imagine how excited the media must be to have the opportunity to do their jobs for once and actually ask questions since they've been asleep the last five years.

Five? Try 25.

Gonna chalk it up to scumbags in his inner circle.

One should be judged by the company they keep.

I'm not particularly a fan of this guy regardless but it is conceivable that his aid did this without his knowledge. My cousin has worked on several political campaigns across the US (he was John Kerry's press secretary and now he's his public affairs spokesman). You should have heard him talk about one of the previous governors of Michigan. He literally thought that nothing she did was wrong. At one point she was on TV licking Obama's nuts and essentially saying "I would SOOO leave Michigan for a cabinet job" and his attitude was like he was oblivious to it.

Anyhow, it is theoretically conceivable to me that: his aid might actually have a zealous belief in her boss. I'm not saying she did authorize this *** without his knowledge.... I'm just saying it's conceivable to me. Hell, I only work in sales and I have a healthy dislike for some of my competition.

Democrats paid the Christie staffers to do this without Christie's knowledge so they could dig up the scandal as a pre-emptive strike against Christie 2016.
